"Girl (しらはたのしょうじょ) of the flag of surrender" is a Japanese novel based on a fact by Tomiko Hika.

It is Fuji TV in 1990 and is become a TV drama each in TV Tokyo Channel 12 in 2009.

A chief character is an author of this novel. She surrendered to the U.S. forces with other commoners at the time of the end of the battle in Okinawa at the time of World War II, but I raised a flag of surrender on this occasion, and the figure was photographed. When I showed the state of the Okinawa war later, this photograph came to be used for re-three.

Story

The beginning begins in the place where a chief character participates in a peaceful march in New York. Therefore she has begun to look for a photographer. I begin recollection afterwards from the place to meet you with a photographer.

She was born in Shuri and lived peacefully. The life that strongly left a tradition of Okinawa is talked about there. (1944), mother die in that in 1944. The older brother whom there was together dies of そのさなか, Komesu in a stray shot, and movement するさなか, the chief character get separated from older sisters more to the south. Then she will continue a refuge line alone.

In that way she wanders while seeing many people killed in action, a soldier committing suicide or inhabitants committing suicide in a group, and I am about to be killed with a certain reed mace by a Japanese soldier. After entering the reed mace which there was when movement in one was approximately one month, an old couple stayed there. The old man did not have both hands both legs and let the inconvenient old woman of eyes take care and lived in the cave. They accepted a girl kindly, and the girl was able to rest the body for the first time here.

In the outside, a battle became intense every moment. She lives in the old couple together here and said that I want to die together, but, for it, the value of importance of the life and surviving is preached. A few days later, the appeal of U.S. forces was asked outside a cave. I called for surrendering first from now on because I threw in a bomb. The old man directed an old woman and let you make a flag of surrender with one's loincloth and gave her the flag. And told me, "it is all right if I had this because it was promises of the world" and promoted it to leave oneself, and to be alone, and to surrender.

She advanced among other inhabitants. One U.S. soldier held something and saw that I aimed at this and was like the camera, but I remembered words said to be it and gave a face to ex-father while thinking that it might be a weapon and showed a smile. She met two older sisters again with other refugees there. It was June 25, 1945.
