Continental O-300 and C-145 are families of the air-cooling horizontal facing six cylinders engine for the aviation that Teledyne Continental motors ever prepared [1].

Production was carried out until 2004 after first one engine was made in 1947. Rolls-Royce Ltd. has produced it under license in the U.K. in the 1960s.

Development

This engine was prepared by the name of C-145 at first. C-145 was developed based on C-125 engine (125hp/93kW). Both use the common crankcase, but I extend a piston stroke, and C-145 raises compression ratio, and 20hp/15kW reinforces the output [1].

O-300 let C-145 modernize, and assumes weight, the outside dimensions, boa, stroke, compression ratio, displacement volume, output equivalence. [1].

GO-300

In derivation types of O-300, the thing which I added a slowdown gearbox to is GO-300. Crankshaft number of revolutions 3,200rpm is in this way decelerated through a slowdown gear with propeller axis number of revolutions 2,400rpm. The output of GO-300 becomes 175hp/130kW, and it is largely strengthened by output 145hp/108kW of O-300 [1]. But overhaul space time is 1,200 hours, and GO-300 turns worse for 1,800 hours of O-300. When a pilot got a wrong handling in GO-300 and, actually, I controlled number of revolutions lower than design number of revolutions and must apply it, reliability was low without being able to show the performance that I assumed. Cessna 175 of the deployment machine of this engine was non-popular for this. Much Cessna 175 flies, but the engine is transshiped even today by the big engine which performs a direct drive of a propeller [2].
