アプスウィープ (British: Upsweep) is the name of the sound added to the pattern of the sound wave of the low frequency of the origin ignorance observed in the sea. In addition, by the katakana notation, I may be written as アプスイープ, an up sweep, an up sweep, but after that unify it in this report in アプスウィープ.

Summary
アプスウィープ is a sound of the patterns that a sound that frequency has a narrow frequency band for several seconds is repeated many times for long time. In other words, it is a sound to repeat a change that pitch has a certain almost constant narrow range in several seconds. Upsweep of the English word is a meaning "to be twisted to the upper part to upsweep", but lines from the left slant bottom to the right slant top are just repeated without several degrees when I take frequency in a vertical axis and write in this sound at the figure which took the time on the cross axle. In addition, this sound was a strong sound so that recording was possible everywhere in the one of the Pacific (but in late years a sound becomes gradually weak like later description).
There seems to be a seasonal change in アプスウィープ and usually reaches the peak in spring in autumn. However, the cause of this seasonal change does not become clear by a season by a season whether it is the fault that an outbreak source turns into of the sound whether the transmission condition of the underwater sound is fault to change.
The outbreak source of this sound is about 54 degrees S, around 140 degrees W. It is thought that this place is a place near the seismic center of the volcanic earthquake, but it is an unsolved problem what which is an outbreak source of this sound it is.
History
アプスウィープ was detected by SOSUS (underwater microphone) and was recorded. It is about August, 1991 that the existence of this sound was announced by American National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Such as originally, as for this, SOSUS discovering a submarine of the Soviet Union; because was water microphone to detect a made underwater sound for the purpose of being military, is because existence of the SOSUS was concealed for a long time. It is 1991 that it accepted existence of the SOSUS formally, and therefore it is 1991 that existence of アプスウィープ was made public.
In addition, since sound strong は, 1991 of this sound, this sound is arrested in SOSUS now in 2011 although it becomes weak [1].
