Real-time AWD or the real-time 4WD is the standby-type four-wheel drive which Honda Motor Co., Ltd. developed.

History

The first (viscous coupling type)

In 1986, real-time 4WD was put on the first Civic shuttle which adopted a mechanical part time four-wheel drive till then. The thing which changed a two-wheel drive and a four-wheel drive was changed to the handed-down convention by the rotary difference of the previous rear wheel automatically by button operation by arranging viscous coupling for the propeller shaft which introduced driving force into the rear wheel. When the rotary difference of the previous rear wheel was excessive, for tight corner braking phenomenon to occur, viscous coupling absorbed a turn difference and allowed you to evade it.
