The potential difference titration (I do not appear I am and, by the way, come) is analysis technique to get information about the density (definitely activity) by soaking one pair or a further electrode into solution, and measuring the potential difference of the electrode while changing the density of purpose compound by titration. I use various kinds of electrodes replying to a purpose compound properly. For example, various metal electrodes in response to metal ions density are used, and it may be said that it is a potential difference assay in a wide sense when I take information as a potential difference using a film electrode (I can think the glass electrode to be kind of the film electrode), the field effect transistor which convert the light and shade inside and outside the film into electric potential.
The electric potential to occur with an electrode is oxidation-reduction potential of the purpose compound, and the value conforms to a Nernst type. In other words,
- E = E ° + RT/(nF)ln a
である. Here, as for E °, in oxidation-reduction potential (reduction potential), R of the particle in the normal condition, in gas constant, T, in absolute temperature, F, in faraday fixed number, n, electric charge, a of the particle are activity in the solution of the particle.
The potential difference must know the electric potential of the electrode making a pair to measure the electric potential of the electrode (half-cell) to be aimed for to occur with both electrodes which I soaked into solution. The potential difference to be finally provided is a difference of the electric potential to occur to the binary electrode. I call this electrode a reference electrode. For a reference electrode, it is common that a salt bridge or an insoluble metal salt electrode is used.
