レクサス LFA
トヨタのレクサス・LFAは、メーカー側は「日本が世界に誇るトップレベルのスーパースポーツ」という表現を用いている[8]。走行性能の高さ・高価な販売価格(約3750万円)・稀少性(限定500台)などから「スーパーカー」の一種であると見なしている人は多い[誰?]。
ただ(トヨタ車全般に間々ある評価ではあるが)「デザインが退屈」「スーパーカーのオーラが無い」といった理由から、同車をスーパーカーではないと否定的に評価する評論家も少なくない(リチャード・ハモンド[9]、前澤義雄[10]など)。また2010年に、トヨタのテストドライバーだった成瀬弘がニュルブルクリンクにおけるLFAのテスト中に事故死した一件[11]を持ち出し「安全性に問題のある車をスーパーカーと呼ぶべきではない」とする意見も見られる[注 7]。
三菱 ランサーエボリューション
三菱・ランサーエボリューション(ランエボ)は、大衆車(100~200万円程度)であるランサーのホットモデルゆえ300~450万円程度で安価であるが、その性能に着目してスーパーカー同等であるかのように言われることがある。その例の一つにワイルド・スピードX2のDVDに収録された映像特典があり、その中でテクニカルアドバイザーのクレイグ・リーバーマンがランエボⅦについて「4ドアのスーパーカー」と発言した。ただ一般的には「よくできた工業製品ではあるが、スーパーカーと呼ぶには魅力が足りない」と評価されることが多い[12]。
スバル インプレッサ
ランエボと価格帯・性能が近く、一般的にライバル車種と見られることが多いスバル・インプレッサも、日本国外ではランエボ同様にスーパーカーと評価される場合がある。特に2010年にスバルのイギリス法人がコスワースチューンのエンジンを搭載した特別モデル「STi CS400」を発売した際には、現地法人自身が「スーパーカーを負かせる車」をうたったため[13]、現地のメディアでスーパーカーとして紹介された[14][15]。
