History

When Connecticut Volksraad approved that "I prepared the village into the east bank of the river" with 38 pioneers in Freeman on October 10, 1667, ウォリングフォード was established. "The long highway" of the ridge of the hill on the plain of the sabulosity along the クィニピアック river is current ウォリングフォード town main street. On May 12, 1670, a town of ウォリングフォード was made a corporation, and the population of this time was 126 people. A division of 6 acres (24,000m2) was set, and 40 houses formed a line along today's main street by 1675. For 1,775 years, George Washington went along the ウォリングフォード town more in 1789.

In the 1690s, ウォリングフォード was one place of the witch trial disturbance that happened in New England. ウィニフレッド King ベナム called "a witch of ウォリングフォード" and ウィニフレッド of the daughter were hung in the court for the charge that they used the magic for three times. It was proved that these two people were innocent, but I left ウォリングフォード, and it was forced to go to Staten Island of New York City [4].

In the 19th century, the manufacturer of the small pewter and Britannia wear considerably concentrates the industry of ウォリングフォード and will develop. By the mid-19th century, Robert Wallace acquired a formula of the nickel silver and established R Wallace & Company with Samuel Simpson, and it became the forerunner of Wallace silver Smith. Small silver and many factories of Britannia merged, and it formed "an international silver company", and it was this time that the head office established some factories in ウォリングフォード in the メリデン city. In 1877, H L Judd manufacturing company began the rule for most 100 years of the center of commerce lower part of the town in the hardware facility which spread out on a south cherry street. While it was long, I changed as a maker of the weapons during brass tableware, hardware, World War II for the clothing and was 1989 that I switched the well-known factory called the Judd open space condominium to a house.

In October, 1871, the ウォリングフォード railroad station of the New York New Haven and Hartford railroad was completed. I am famous, and it is with a mansard roof, the bracket with the decoration, the headstone in the outside corner of the latticework in a building remaining which there became few as this kind building built in the times of the Ulysses President Grant government in the golden age of the railroad expansion. The town got the help of a state and the federal government and performed a roof and dismantling repair of the appearance early in the 1990s. In this station, rebuilding is planned as a part of the New Haven Hartford Springfield commuting rail line now; the present of Amtrak "bar mon ter", や "northeast area" train runs.

ウォリングフォード is a birthplace of the Lyman hall (from 1724 to 1790) which was an American Declaration of Independence signer in Moses Yale beach (from 1800 to 1868), Morton Downey (from 1901 to 1985) of the singer, the conservatives talk show emcee Morton Downey youth (from 1932 to 2001), Georgia Governor who it is a publisher, and would establish Associated Press in great grandfather Aaron Jerome (from 1764 to 1802), inventors of Winston Churchill in 1846. The Raoul rough berry (from 1885 to 1918) that was an ace pilot spent childhood in World War I in ウォリングフォード.

Economic

New York insulation line company, 1910

I invited a high-tech industry in the past 10 years, and ウォリングフォード diversified with commerce and an industrial base in comparison with the past heavy industries. The town has an original generation section, and the electric bill is considerably lower than the average of the state. There are a medicine, medical care, a service industry, manufacturing industry and the big company of very many kinds including the hi-tech special article production. While there is industrial accumulation in this way, I have characteristic that the person of pollution outbreak secondly concentrates on it in a state. All neck is included in that, too and are American Cyanamid Co. formerly and are famous by having been going to drop trust of author Rachel Carson of "the silent spring". However, most of industrial development deviate from the center of the town, and most are in the suburban new industrial area along expressway Route 91 between states. Bristol マイヤーズスクイブ of pharmaceutical products was a town and was the greatest employer and established research and development facilities near expressway Route 91 and the state way Route 68 intersection between states. There is the place in the special interchange zone that an office building, a hotel, a hi-tech manufacturing facility are high-density and may accumulate it. However, I have a hard fight because a center of commerce shopping district (north and south main street, a center street, a hall avenue, クィニピアック avenue and the colony road interproximal) leaves the historic character in the 19th century of ウォリングフォード. Up with downtown ウォリングフォード which is the grass-roots movement of the democratic woman of ウォリングフォード is formed in 2014 and pushes forward the reactivation.

I it in mass culture

In "thank-you, Boys," stage setting contained ウォリングフォード, but was not photographed a movie of 2001 of Penny Marshall based on reminiscences of Beverly ドノフリオ. The chief character whom Drew Barrymore played is drawn as a girl eager in leaving the hometown. A D カルボ of the ウォリングフォード resident wrote "The Other Side of the Tracks" and produced the maiden work as a movie director. Most of the stage is ウォリングフォード. A cameo appears as a bartender William Dickinson of the mayor by this movie. The place of ウォリングフォード coming up for this movie is a truck side pizza. JEX bar, チョート rosemary hall school are farmhouses of the construction more for 1,841 years in the east side of the town. In December, 2009, カルボ produced second product "The Melancholy Fantastic" in ウォリングフォード. The photographed place was the shop of the Sarah's corner, north main street, an open field close to the Cheshire road. In April, 2012, カルボ produced "The Midnight Game" of 4 items in ウォリングフォード. The photographed place was the library of the town and historical Samuel Simpson house.

The scene of pro-independence about the death of Ken Macke Leroy movie "Without Mercy" was photographed in ウォリングフォード, but the stage setting was Missouri skid more City. The Ralph server which was born and raised in ウォリングフォード got the best movie grand jury prize of the New York International Film Festival by a movie in charge of a script, production, supervision. As the scenery, the cornfield of the town modelled it on Missouri skid moa and was used, and the small shop of Sarah was used elsewhere.

The movie of the D knee uses the Paul Mellon arts center of チョート as は where "the road trip daddy is stopped to nobody!", one of the colleges.

It is 06492, and the zip code of aerial town Stars Jolo of TV program "Gilmore girls" is the same as ウォリングフォード.
