断魚渓

断魚渓 (だんぎょけい) is a valley located in Onan-cho, Shimane (former Iwami-cho).

At the mountain stream which lasted for branch of the Gouno River, Nigorigawa upper reaches approximately 4 kilometers, I eroded a rhyolite and was formed [¹]. The pitch difference does not have the conspicuous waterfall as 100 meters between the mountain stream. However, bedrock called Senjojiki is exposed to the bottom of the gorge. Waterway by the logic of nature, rock Okegawa go to the bedrock. The name called 断魚渓 was associated with the deep water of 断魚 in the downstream noh dance deep water and was named because I shut out the going up of the sweetfish. There are 24 beauty spots including bride ガ deep water, 通仙橋, Senjojiki, the noh dance deep water, and a walk road is established [²].

Scholar of Chinese classics Shin Noda (from 1844 to 1899) set 24 scenery of 断魚渓 of "断魚渓二十四景" [³]. NHK says that "断魚渓題詠集" which Shin Noda edited spread the name of 断魚渓 in the world [⁴]. I am appointed in the natural beauty spot of the country in 1935 [²] and am the designated area of the Egawa water system prefectural nature park.
