ケルクアン is a city of near Cartago of northeast Tunisian Cape Bon. It was considered that the city of this Phoenician (Carthaginian) was abandoned between the first Punic Wars (from B.C. 264 to B.C. 241), and I was not rebuilt by a Roman. This town existed for approximately 400 years.

Although I was not known so generally because part was simply destroyed, in ケルクアン, it was in the best remains of ancient Cartago. As a result of excavation, it becomes clear that these remains are things of the third century B.C. from the fourth century B.C.

The wall of the house of a lot of remains のここかしこに understanding the placement of the building clearly is left. In addition, the colored clay on the facade is left a lot. The individual houses are standardized based on minute city planning.

A peristyle is established in an altar, and a mosaic is seen in a small courtyard again. There are curbstone, doorstep, threshold, floors of the simple mosaic everywhere. The archeologist excavates ケルクアン now. However, it is thought that the best part has been already excavated.

ケルクアン was one of cities of the most important Phoenicians with Cartago, ハドルメトゥム (Hadrumetum, modern Seuss) and Utica (Utica).

The UNESCO took Punic Town of Kerkuane and its Necropolis as the only Phoenician, remains of the Carthaginian city which existed in 1985 and enrolled in a world heritage.
