Distribution
United States of America (Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Mississippi, the eastern part of Louisiana) endemic species
Form
5-7cm in length. The figure is big. The surface of the skin has a granular projection. There is the individual which a color of the body has variation, and contains a spot of the dark color with yellowish green, bottle green, yellow, brown, gray. In addition, I change color to some extent by the environment. A white line design enters from the rostrum edge to the side of the body side.
The larval full length is approximately 5cm. The subadult just after the metamorphosis is 1.4-2cm in length.
Habits
I inhabit the forest or the city area. Nocturnal。 It is 樹上棲, but goes into a tree base and a bush, the underground on the day when the dry season and temperature are low. I hibernate at such a place in the winter season. It is an origin of Japanese name and the fame (it barks Barking =) that a lane call is similar to the cry of dog.
The eating habit eats Insecta, class arthropoda, a small frog in animal food.
The breeding form is oviparous. The breeding sound (main long-nosed goblin call) is high-pitched by a minor key unlike a lane call. I lay approximately 2,000 eggs in ponds and marshes for from March to August. The egg hatches in 40-70 days.
with the human being of relationships
I inhabit near the private house, and it may be said that it is the frog which is familiar to a human being.
I may be bred as a pet and am imported into Japan. There is relatively much traffic. I am bred in a terrarium. For 樹上棲, it is desirable to breed it with a cage with the height. I spread the flooring which humidity retention such as palm gallasoil or the humus is to the cage and are easy to go into slightly into thick pieces to go into the flooring, and to have possibilities to take a rest. Because I am poor at extreme heat, I secure breathability with the side of a cover and the cage as wire netting. I cross a branch and driftwood, a houseplant and will have an activity place and the hideout. Because I am poor at extreme high temperature and low temperature, I put a cage in the good place of the ventilation in the summer and use an air conditioner appliance. On the contrary, I use a heater in the winter season and store a cage in a greenhouse. The water prepares the water container which a whole body can be immersed in and raises the humidity by a sprayer when I deleted the night and illumination. I put it in a bait container and give it whether the bait gives crickets in each individual with tweezers. I feed it meals such as vegetables for the bait beforehand and I sprinkle a supplement and give nutritive value. I give you it to prevent that it is counterattacked bait in the case of a live bait and is escaped after smashing a chin and a feeler, a hind leg, and breaking it.
