Ammonal

Ammonal

Ammonal (Ammonal) is a kind of the explosives. I am based on ammonium nitrate and trinitrotoluene.

Summary

I mixed ammonium nitrate, trinitrotoluene, powdery aluminum in the ratio of 27:67:11. As for the ammonium nitrate, aluminum functions as a thing increasing explosion power as an oxidizer. That ammonium nitrate is cheaper for cheapness than trinitrotoluene; is characteristic. In production, in the case of mixture, it is necessary to be careful about absorbency of the ammonium nitrate. The explosion speed is 4,400m/sec.

History

I have begun to be used for a gallery war in the U.K. in 1915 during World War I. The beginning was 65% of ammonium nitrate, trinitrotoluene 15%, aluminum 17%, composition of 3% of charcoal. In the third Ypres war, 30,000 pounds was used, and 20,000 pounds was used in the fourth Ypres war.

I am used as an explosive for the industry now.
