Distribution

Types differentiate with a wide area distribution class to be distributed from the Korean Peninsula to Himalayas, Vietnam every area any place other than Japan from Hokkaido to Kyushu in Japan in size and a spot, the season of the imago. It is the description about subspecies from Japan as follows.

A forewing length of the imago is 35-45mm, and a female is slightly bigger. The feather does not have the projection to be outstanding with the triangle that was slightly round like a closely related rhododendron. As for the feather, a big bright spot and obi design lie scattered in the blackish brown ground with the anteroposterior front and back, and the Japanese name comes from here, too. A whole body is comprised of two colors of black and white except that a way of speaking is orange.

The imago occurs twice a year for from May to August, but may occur three times a year in the warm area. I inhabit the grove of miscellaneous trees of the hill country from the low land, but the imago may appear in a city and the residential area adjacent to it and occurs around the city if there are a lot of nettle trees. I rarely visit the flower and I do it to 腐果 such as sap or the persimmon which oozed from the trunks such as oaks, beast feces and smoke juice. I may be seen with a rhododendron.

Life cycle

The larva assumes a nettle tree of the elm department a meal tree. The larval head has two corners, and it is the same, and the edible grass resembles the larva of the rhododendron closely, too. When it is winter, the larvae are below a tree trunk and winter in dead leaves. When it is spring, I have a trunk again and I eat a young leaf and grow up. The pupa hangs reverse on the leaf of the nettle tree only with a tailpiece in green spindle shape.

Maintenance state evaluation of the kind

By the following metropolis and districts of Japan, I receive designation of the Red List [1].

Close species

The アカボシゴマダラ genus (Hestina Westwood, 1850) assumes the northern part of Pakistan 西限 and I hang it in the Himalayas south side, Myanmar between there and India Nepal, the northern part of Thailand, Laos, the northern part of Vietnam, China, Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, the Japanese Islands and am distributed.

There was the history that included closely related マネシゴマダラ genus Hestinalis in the Hestina genus as a subgenus, but in late years the difference of a form and the meal tree is announced and should do it with the other genus. Three kinds of follows are included in the Hestina genus of the narrow sense based on this thought. It is known that a model produces all kinds of the Hestina genus in the season when a feather is white in (the dry season in the monsoon zone) for the chilliness period.

アカボシゴマダラ Hestina assimilis is distributed over Japan other than a four-footed butterfly. The basis production center of the kind is Guangdong. The feature is that red annular crests form a line in the circumference of the hind wing according to Japanese name. This seed is a wide area distribution seed of the East Asia and is distributed from the northern part of Vietnam to China, Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula. There is not a record from litoral. Oshima, Amami and subspecies H. a. shirakii Shirozu, 1955 where it is inherent only to the neighboring islands are distributed in Japan. However, I came to be seen suddenly in South Kanto region from about 2000. This is not of Amami group of islands subspecies origin, and possibility of the outpatient department population that name type subspecies from a continent hit artificially settled in has it pointed out.
