Baton グインネット (English: for Button Gwinnett, from April 10, 1735 to May 19, 1777) is a politician of the United States of America. As a representative of Georgia, I signed the second (the right of the first signer) in American Declaration of Independence. I became the temporary governor of Georgia 邦 in 1777, and the Gui net county that was the main suburbs of the Atlanta urban area was named for him now. I lost my life by the duel with the political adversary, but the signature becomes the scarcity value and will be bought and sold at a high price.

Life

Emigration in the United States

It was created through England, down Hatherley of the bizarrerie studio Shah as a son of Welsh parents, Samuel グインネット clergyman and the Ann グインネット married couple in 1735. When there was it on a birthday of グインネット, there were various opinions, but was baptized at Saint Catherine church of Gloucester on April 10, 1735. After having gone to the royal school in Gloucester, I have begun to work as a merchant in Bristol. I moved to Wolverhampton in 1755 and married local Ann Vaughn in 1757. I left Wolverhampton, and, in 1732, the married couple emigrated to the American continent.

政歴 in Georgia

I arrived at Charleston at first and worked in the savanna by 1765. グインネット gave up a merchant and sold off all the products and began plantation management 購 in land in the St. Catharines island. I prospered as a farmer and got fame in the land by 1769, and I was picked by a representative from Volksraad. During the term of office of the member of the Diet, the main rival in politics was rack orchid Macintosh, and the Lyman hall was a close sympathizer. I did not become the strong prophet of the right of the colony until 1775, but Saint John county with the land threatened you then because a colony did a slightly conservative reaction for an event at the time when I withdrew from Georgia.

グインネット was appointed by the commander of the Georgia posse, but I declined the job and was chosen as a representative of Continental Congress. In Continental Congress, I signed a copy of first paper of the American Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 and stayed in Philadelphia until declaration of the parchment was completed. I signed final copying on August 2. After all, after a signature to Declaration of Independence, I accompanied Carter Braxton who was a Declaration of Independence signer to Virginia and carried Kuninori bill drafted by John Adams. While it was a representative of Continental Congress, I became the candidate of the brigadier general in command of the first Georgia regiment of the large army, but lost this to rack orchid Macintosh. I felt awfully hard by having had job stolen by a rival.

I acted as Georgia 邦議会議員 and I was made from a pamphlet of John Adams in 1777 and made the first article of the first Kuninori method in Georgia. I became the chairperson of Georgia 邦議会 soon, and Archibald baroque of Georgia 邦知事 acted as this job until dead time. グインネット was made to promote by the executive committee of the assembly in the vacant seat. グインネット was going to let leadership of Macintosh weaken in this job.

Duel

グインネット planned invasion to U.K. territory east Florida. I left the duty to the officer of the subordinate of Macintosh without going for the translation that led the armed forces by oneself because an assembly was opening. This invasion finally ended in failure. By the failure of the expedition this as for グインネット having lost by a governor's race in May, 1777 it is very likely. Macintosh enjoyed bewilderment of グインネット then and criticized it about the strategy that failed openly. But that グインネット does not have a fault; it was concluded. グインネット proposed a duel to Macintosh, and a duel was fought in a small town thunderbolt close to the savanna on May 16, 1777. I was hurt to two people, and Macintosh survived, but died for gangrene to come because a leg was smashed in グインネット three days later.

An obelisk of the granite, the monument of the signer memorialize グインネット and two other people who signed American Declaration of Independence from Georgia in front of a county Government building of Georgia Augusta. As for their corpse, it was done 再葬 under the monument, but the burial place of グインネット was not discovered.

Value of the signature

When グインネット is the historical person who does not considerably attract attention, there is the thing that I say, and only one becomes the fame. His signature became most valuable in the fact that the short story was "a baton, a baton", and Isaac Asimov of the SF writer used effectively in the world. By the general evaluation, the example of the goods signature of グインネット will come next to Gaius Julius Caesar or William Shakespeare, and value is the signature that there is in the conventional Americans most. In one example, a signature of グインネット was sold for 150,000 dollars. This abnormal, high price depends on the wish of many collectors that it is said to gather all the signature of 56 signers of the American Declaration of Independence and a combination of rare fewness of the signature of グインネット. Because グインネット is existence not to be outstanding until a Declaration of Independence signature and left the world after a signature soon, the signature to exist does not reach 30. In the 1920s, I was owned by rare book distributor A S W Rosenbach where five were famous of his signature.
