Stewart Island
Stewart Island (Stewart Island) is an island in southern New Zealand. It is separated 23km in four Bo Strait during a southern island.
There is a trace to say that the island had the Maori of the indigenous people once. The island was called the rakee back (Rakiura) that meant "the place where the sky burnt red" by local Maori (an island is called the rakee back now).
I was discovered in 1770 by James Cook and was incorporated in a chart, but it was the thing which was 不定確 and was described as if it was some peninsulas of the southern island. An island was considered to be a chart by Captain William Stewart exactly in 1809. The name of Stewart Island is named for his name.
Stewart Island is a part of the Southland district of the southern island for administrative division. As for the area of Stewart Island, as for a little less than 1.5 times, population of Okinawa Island (1206.49km²), 402 people (2006), the center are village Oban in the half-moon bay in 1,746km² (called the half-moon bay).
An airline of Stewart island フライツ is the same, and, to Stewart Island, a ferry route is navigated from Invercargill at the south end of a New Zealand southern island by ブルーフ.
Rakee back national park
Nature was rich in Stewart Island at mountain がちな volcanic island, and nearly 85% of the island became the national park as rakee back national park in March, 2002. This is the world's southernmost national park. The most of the island become the treasure house of wild birds in a virgin forest other than the park. It is only here to be able to observe a wild kiwi.
