John Powell (John Gates Powell, June 25, 1947 -) is a track-and-field athlete of the United States of America.

I participate in the Montreal Olympics and the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics as a player of the discus throw in 1976. I win a bronze medal next to Mac Wilkins (Mac Wilkins) of the United States, Wolfgang Schmidt (Wolfgang Schmidt) of East Germany by a record of 65m70 in the Montreal meeting. In the Los Angeles meeting, I won a bronze medal next to ロルフ ダンネベルク (Rolf Danneberg), Wilkins of West Germany in 65m46.
