History

There was the building of the bank of 2 stories on this ground and Taito-ku bought it in 1985 and established a sightseeing in Asakusa culture center [3]. Because it was past 50 years old, and deterioration advanced, competition was carried out in 2008 [4], and a plan of Kengo Kuma was adopted. The total business expense was completed for approximately 1,600 million yen in [3], 2012.

Building

By the design which piled up the house of the one-storied house lengthwise, a change is sent an angle, the interior decoration of height and the roof of each layer with each. A vertical louver made of flaming retardant materials of the cedar [5] is attached to each layer. The dark circles state, "I did it in the design which piled up a one-storied house to be correct in cityscape of Asakusa again so that a pencil building does not have it because a site is not large" about the intention of the design [6].

In the first floor, a sightseeing information corner was established Japanese, English, Korean on a guidance counter and foreign currency currency exchange, the second floor for Chinese. The sixth floor is available for events with the seventh-floor exhibit space in a stepped utility room. The eighth floor of the top floor becomes the free fine-view terrace [7].

It was 41.25m in height by the plan at first, but some raised the objection from Senso-ji Temple and the local mall saying that I spoiled harmony of the cityscape [8]. As a result, 2m reduced and was considered to be 38.9m in height [2].

In 2012, I win a good design prize [9].
