Socorro
Socorro (Socorro) is a city of the United States of America New Mexico Socorro county. It is located to the altitude of 4,579 feet (1,396 meters) of the Rio Grande basin. The population is 8,879 people in a national census of 2000. It is the county seat of the Socorro county.

History
Origin of Socorro
In June, 1598, fan デ オニャーテ led the group of the Spaniard settler through ホルナダ Dell ムエルト of one ward of image which went to ruin of the desert which was just over in the south of the town of current Socorro.
When a Spaniard emerged from the desert, the ピロ Pueblo of テイパナ gave a Spaniard food and water. Therefore the Spaniard named this Pueblo "Soccoro" (Socorro) which meant "relief" in Spanish. The name called Socorro was applied to ピロ Pueblo of the Bira baud of the neighborhood later.
Probably ヌエストラ senora デ Socorro of the first Catholic mission of this area was founded in about 1626. The Augustin デ Ben tongue Kurt monk wrote that approximately 600 people lived in this area later in this time.
During a revolt of Pueblo of 1680, Spanish refugees dropped in at Pueblo of Socorro. Though a Spaniard left for the south for security, much ピロ Pueblo were accompanied. There was not the protection of the Spanish military authorities corps, and ピロ Pueblo where Socorro was destroyed and stayed were murdered with Apache in other tribes.
When a Spaniard conquered New Mexico again, they did not settle down in Socorro again at first. Until the 19th century, the south of the rust null (w:Sabinal, Texas) of approximately 30 miles north of Socorro did not have one Spanish settlement except El Paso, too. In 1800, the Fernando チャコン governor-general gave an order to settle down in Socorro and other villages in the area. However, nobody settled down in Socorro until 1815.
In 1817, 70 residents of ベリン (w:Belen, New Mexico) petitioned the Royal Family for land of Socorro. In 1833, the census of Socorro recorded 400 or more, and I added it up, and 1,774 people lived in the neighborhood of the village. In the sun Miguel デ Socorro mission (w:San Miguel de Socorro), Socorro was founded right after it was settled down again. The church was built in the ruins of old ヌエストラ senora デ Socorro.
19th century

New Mexico college of engineering
It is the stronghold of the New Mexico mining technology society (New Mexico college of engineering) with a department and the graduate school (doctorate grant) which said that Socorro is specialized in science and the engineering of the state. The New Mexico college of engineering hosts energy material study examination center others, many big research centers. The headquarters of the supersized interference radio telescope group is set up again in the campus. Supersized interference radio telescope group in itself is located between D till with west, Magdalena of Socorro. The football team of the University of Texas of El Paso camps here for these past five years.

Exposure to the media
By the setting that the character whom Ellen Burstyn played in movie "love (w:Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore) of 1974 of Alice" left the town in Socorro and went to Tucson for, it was mentioned in a meaning disdainful some. When it was Socorro, the beginning of the movie, the scene after the unexpected accident of the husband of the character of Burstyn were connoted, but were really photographed in Tucson.
