Norton フィッツワレン railway accident (English: Norton Fitzwarren rail crash (1940)) is the railway accident that occurred between tone ton - Norton フィッツワレン () of Somerset, the U.K. on November 4, 1940. Because the driver of the train mistook 現示 and the wiring of the signal, I came in a derailment switch, and derailment, 27 people died, and 74 people got injured. GWR King type steam locomotive King George VI who was in an accident was repaired afterwards and returned to service. In addition, a tone ton sleeping carriage fire accident occurs at less than 2 miles a different accident from our scene of the accident near our scene of the accident in 1978 on November 10, 1890.

Process of the accident

The train plunged into the derailment switch in the terminal of Relief (Slow) Line which fell.
The accident occurred at the point where a quadruple track joined a double track. The quadruple track section was the structure that both sides of the express line (the fast line) of the top and bottom were caught in the local train line of the top and bottom (the slow line). It was custom that all signals were installed in the line left side each, but was installed in the line right side because it installed the signal of the express line between two express lines.
Though the driver of the train ran an outbound local train line, I confirmed a signal (it is all green and means "progress" for a downhill express line) on the line right side and left the tone ton station (). The wartime night blackout contributed to this misunderstanding, too. When other trains overtook an own train, the driver noticed a mistake, but I came in a derailment switch and derailed without stopping by a terminal part of the track. Fortunately, it was avoided the train coming in the express line, and colliding with other trains.
In addition, I went down and went down it from the express line and moved the train that a signalman caused an accident at tone ton to the local train line, but the driver did not notice it.
Due to the expense top, the signal of the scene of the accident remained have bad placement. If at least one pair of signal is installed as usual – Signal bridge (gantry) and a bracket are necessary – I might recognize the driver of, train was running which track, and which signal linked. In addition, as for the driver's seat of the locomotive of the Great Western railroad having been on the line right side, it was unkind though there was a general signal on the line left side.
The extra space that there was between an express line of the top and bottom was a trace at the wide orbit center interval by the broad gauge (Brunel's broad gauge) of Brunel [1].
現示 of the section which the signal of Norton フィッツワレン Station () comprises an automatic train control (Automatic Train Control) of GWR, and comes close is "attention (caution) I warned the driver who was in the cab if it was "by a sound and was the structure which operated the brakes of the train when I did not accept warning. However, I may cancel it unconsciously because a driver can cancel warning. This rises in the case that I mistake when a driver in particular is 進行現示 (wrong green signal). I may not believe it saying that ATC device does not work appropriately.
Stop, progress
The train which overtook the train which caused an accident felt uneasiness for an abnormal sound. I became clear later when this sound was the sound that ballast threw it, and was put up by the train which derailed. He braked it according to a rule of "Stop and Examine" (Pulled tail) and checked what was a problem. Because nothing was found, this train departed several minutes late. The crew of this train knew the accident later.
The house of the driver of the train which caused an accident was bombed at night of the day before, but he went to his office as usual.
