The eagle (HMS Eagle) is a carrier with the British navy's first island model bridge deck (island). The U.K. navy which purchased Almirante body Ren that was sisters warship of Chilean naval battleship Almirante ラトーレ formerly misappropriated the hull and started construction as a carrier on February 28, 1918 for World War I last years.

Design

Two chimneys stood behind a front part mast, and each of the two sections of the chimney was small size of a book. A plain simple crus-type rear mast was put up in the rear of the second chimney. Length, the width of this upper part structure became 39.6m *5.5m, and it was huge structure to occupy approximately 20% of the flying deck space. One crane to manage a seaplane located it behind the upper part structure.

They were right under the flying deck, and a hangar of 6.2m in height was established, but the hangar was sandwiched between 15.2cm guns placed in the ship's side and was narrowed, and only areas of approximately 60% were produced in comparison with flying deck size.

Defense

Warship career

There is the ship which sank by the underwater mine of the German military in the canal, and the eagle will remain in the great bitters lake because of a strong wind until April 15 because the passage of the place was impossible. Therefore I received refueling and departed from Port Said on the next day and arrived alone off Port Sudan toward the south on April 18. The eagle sailed the next day and left for the south after the accommodation in the swordfish of the deployment machine that unfolded in Port Said more and arrived at Aden on April 21. On the same day, they left Aden with 重巡洋艦 Cornwall, and eagle and two ships of Cornwall arrived at Mombasa on April 26.

Then, I participated in Operation pedestal of August, 1942 and received three of four torpedoes of German submarine U-73 in a transportation fleet guards duty to Malta in the port engine department off the Algiers north on the same month 11 and sank eight minutes later.
