I describe (arrangement of the scroll) in this clause in the winding opening of The Tale of Genji. Is related; and of the winding of The Tale of Genji distribute it, and explain the one.
Table of contents
Summary
The Tale of Genji is comprised of 54 volumes altogether now. They are displayed according to it with decided winding opening (arrangement), and it is said that I read. However, the current winding opening is not thought about from a point in time when The Tale of Genji was established because various winding opening is considered to have existed a summary book, an old genealogy an Old explanatory note of The Tale of Genji historically by various records including the winding name record to have been the much more same.
In "a dynasty story" made in the Heian era including The Tale of Genji and the "imitation of classical styles story to descend," some long piece stories to be comprised of plural winding exist, but, as for most, each winding merely has only a number in the winding opening such as "winding of one winding "・" two" like a low floor story, Hamamatsu vice-minister of the Cabinet under the ritsuryo system story, awaking fretful at midnight, a dress story, Sumiyoshi story, a princess, the paths of authority of ひ story of the dream to trace it in our body, an image of a pine reflected in the water vice-minister of the Cabinet under the ritsuryo system story, a love refined general. In contrast, the winding name that is inherent to each winding is acquired in The Tale of Genji, and the number in the winding opening is not referred to the biography book in the old times. It is clear what kind of reason such a difference occurred because of, and there is not it. In addition, a number of the winding opening is referred to the biography book in うつほ story with a winding name, but a problem in the winding opening when it is complicated in The Tale of Genji likewise exists because it is not thought that these just reflect a thing at the time of the story establishment because the winding name every biography book and the difference in the winding opening are intense again whether, ugh, one of the Edo era is auspicious decoration for gifts as for the biography book for the whole volume of the pot story. In addition, the power and fortune story is also one of a few stories to have a winding name for each winding, but numbers in the winding opening are usually referred to the biography book of this power and fortune story with a winding name, and the problem in the winding opening does not produce it from contents because the power and fortune story is historical novel again (story-like history book) because context of winding is apparent.
As for the justified winding opening that an author established it or was common to many readers existing, it was thought with a matter of course that did not need to argue once. For example, The Tale of Genji was concluded, and this was in the interval as grounds in there being a description such as "than one winding" in Sarashina diary written at few time. For example, Keiji Inaga states, "the winding name of The Tale of Genji would be touched by an author" as "I judged it based on a winding name which winding the reader at the time should read after which winding, and is there not it?." assuming "the right winding opening" when an author established it in a discussion whether a winding name was added to by an author existing [1].
On the other hand, only a winding name of the winding was written in the manuscript from Kamakura era to the Muromachi era, and it was a normal figure that the title of the whole story "The Tale of Genji" was not written down in the winding opening whether was the winding that the winding should read when either. As for the concept called "the right winding opening" that you should read which winding after which winding that was common to a reader in original The Tale of Genji that in the first place such a fact was written for the cause (or including an author), the viewpoint that might not exist is started [2].
Current winding opening
Be arranged in a straight line as follows, and, as for The Tale of Genji, 54 tatami is generally assumed a thing to read according to the winding opening (I appreciate) now. The publication of a biography book and the living language reason is made by this order, too.

General winding opening before modern times
When I set winding in commentary, summary book, winding name records of The Tale of Genji before modern times, all winding was connected by the expression "that winding and the different winding that there was often not what could be arranged in a straight line simply, and waved a number loaded "・" "・" depths to put together to line up" with like the present and "it was two-dimensional" for the whole or were located in "a double track mark" and the form that I could call. In addition, I do not agree with the overall reel number and the number in the biggest winding opening to take the form "not to wave a number to the winding of the row" when I number winding names. In addition, some winding may be called by a name (as for this name, the technical term "nickname" may be used, but this is a name meaning, "it is the name that is different when I compared it with the name that is generally used now" to the last and exists when it is past, and a current "nickname" is considered to have been a more general name like "the smell head of an office in charge of military affairs" for "a smell shrine".) different from the present.
I show below the general winding opening before modern times. The parenthesis is a nickname of the winding name, but is not simple. Specifically, I refer to an article of each winding.
| Winding of the book | Winding of the row | Remarks | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Paulownia pot (the judgment, shrine of the day to shine in front of a pot) | There are the winding that is different from the paulownia pot and the document to do about the judgment in front of a pot and the shrine of the day to shine. | |
| 2 | Goosefoot | Cicada, bottle gourd | |
| 3 | Light purple | End picking flowers | |
| 4 | I turn red and congratulate it | ||
| 5 | Flower party | ||
| 6 | Aoi | ||
| 7 | 賢木 (a pine Urashima) | ||
| 8 | 花散里 | ||
| 9 | Suma | ||
| 10 | Akashi (going along the seashore) | ||
| 11 | Channel marks | Land overrun by weeds, Sekiya | |
| 12 | Picture contest | ||

| 14 | Feathery stratus | ||
| 15 | Morning glory | ||
| 16 | Girl (light [3]) | ||
| 17 | Buddhist angel's hair decorations | Hatsune、Butterfly、Firefly、Everlasting summer、Bonfire、For a field、Royal visit、Thoroughwort、Pillar made of a podocarp | |
| 18 | Plum branch | ||
| 19 | wisteria back leaf | ||
| 20 | In Wakana (box bird) | Wakana bottom (wigs) | Wakana does not divide it into two top and bottom with the winding name record of the old times, and there are more in total one and counted things |
| 21 | Kashiwagi | ||
| 22 | Flute | Bell cricket | |
| 23 | Evening fog | ||
| 24 | Teachings of Buddhism | ||
| 25 | Illusion | ||
| 26 | 雲隠 | The text does not perform existing in a legend, but only a winding name may be often mentioned | |
| 27 | Smell shrine (smell head of an office in charge of military affairs, 薫大将, 薫中将) | Japanese apricot with red blossoms, bamboo river | |
| 28 | Bridge-guardian goddess (layman) | ||
| 29 | Shiinomoto | ||
| 30 | Boy | ||
| 31 | Fresh bracken | ||
| 32 | Parasitic plant (貌鳥) | There are the winding that is different from the parasitic plant and the document to do about 貌鳥. | |
| 33 | Arbor (narrow straw mat) | There are the winding that is different from the arbor and the document to do about the narrow straw mat. | |
| 34 | Floating boat | ||
| 35 | Dragonfly | ||
| 36 | Calligraphy | ||
| 37 | Transience of this world (teacher of the law) | There are the winding that is different from the transience of this world and the document to do about the teacher of the law. |
While, about so-called "Uji 10 tatami from a bridge-guardian goddess to transience of this world," there is the document of the form that arrangement similar to other winding is listed in,
- I write 9 tatami less than Shiinomoto like the winding on the same side of the bridge-guardian goddess.
- I give up a number to begin some other time from "1, Uji" in ten quires of Uji (白造紙).
- I write the whole ten quires of Uji as if it is "Uji" and 1 tatami and write a winding name of each ten quires of Uji winding in the bottom (original Kamoto The Tale of Genji genealogies).
The document adding an explanatory note, "there is the few thing" in these ten quires of Uji to exists unless といった example is seen.
Furthermore, there is often the thing which "a skylark child" writes down the winding name that "cherry blossom viewing" is not seen in to current 54 tatami such as "the dew of Yamaji" "cherry blossom viewing" "a difference comb" "an unhatched egg left in the nest" "a narrow straw mat" "a cherry tree person" "a teacher of the law" in after transience of this world "Sagano" "Yabase" "the shrine of the day to shine".
Existence of the current winding opening and the different winding opening
A description considered to be based on the winding opening unlike the current winding opening is often seen in a commentary or the winding name record of the old times.
Winding opening of the The Tale of Genji picture scroll
With the theory of Terukazu Akiyama who "the The Tale of Genji picture scroll" considered to have been produced in last years of Heian era was separated every Kazuha now and was dispersed to Tokugawa Art Museum of Nagoya-shi, Goto art museum of Setagaya-ku, Tokyo, several places including the Tokyo National Museum and was possessed, but did the way of connecting of called bamboo river → bridge-guardian goddess who originally was different from the current winding opening [4].
Winding opening of 源氏釈
Establishment time is the oldest as a commentary of The Tale of Genji, and the winding opening by "beginning 源氏釈 (former Tamoto) turned on of the explanatory note" has the following characteristics [5].
- I give a winding name of the winding not to exist named "a cherry tree person" after last "槇柱" on the same side of Buddhist angel's hair decorations and add an explanatory note saying "there should be it next to a firefly".
- The back of "廿五幻" becomes "廿七匂兵部卿" immediately and becomes "the missing number" without "廿六" where there should be 雲隠 existing.
- I make "a boy" winding on the same side of "Shiinomoto".
- "37" appears, and, as winding to continue after "36 transience of this world", "it includes only a winding name winding named auspicious decoration for gifts".
Winding opening of the appendix
With descriptions following to an appendix about the winding opening [6].
- There is a nickname called "pot Senzai" for winding called a paulownia pot, and a thing equivalent to a current "paulownia pot" records that there was "或本" divided into "pot Senzai" and two winding called "a paulownia pot" now.
- "There is no this firewood" (第一次奧入) or "there is no this firewood from the start" and adds (第二次奧入) and an explanatory note after having written down the name named "the shrine of the day to shine" between a paulownia pot and a goosefoot.
Winding opening of 河海抄
In 河海抄 which is a commentary written early in the Muromachi era by Yoshinari Yotsutsuji, a possession book of Koreyuki Fujiwara is so form, but conveys that "Sekiya → land overrun by weeds" where is reverse to now general "land overrun by weeds → Sekiya" and form to say existed about context with land overrun by weeds winding and the Sekiya winding.
Winding opening of 耕雲本
It is the combination book including a Blue Picture Book for children book and the other book to while being based on Kawachi book, and, in "耕雲本 which is the text of The Tale of Genji fixed in the middle of Muromachi era by Nagachika Kazannin," as for text in itself, there is not the thing that it is different from the normal winding opening of the act at all in the winding opening. However, 跋歌 by 耕雲 is written down in the end of a volume of each winding as the characteristic, and 耕雲本 indicates the original winding opening there; following; is characteristic.
- "A goosefoot" does not have 跋歌.
- "Wakana bottom" does not have 跋歌.
- 跋歌 of "雲隠" is written down in the end of a volume of the "illusion" winding after 跋歌 of the illusion winding.
- 跋歌 of "貌鳥" is written down in the end of a volume of the "parasitic plant" winding after 跋歌 of the parasitic plant.
- 跋歌 of "the teacher of the law" is written down in the end of a volume of the "transience of this world" winding after 跋歌 of the transience of this world.
Of these, I often appear about handling of Wakana second volume and 雲隠 in the winding opening of the old times, but it is in one of the grounds of the opinion "that the part is winding called 貌鳥 where is different from the parasitic plant once in the latter half of the parasitic plant winding, and the part was winding called the teachers of the law that is different from the transience of this world in the latter half of the transience of this world winding" by Naohiko Teramoto although there are not many examples about a teacher of 貌鳥 and the law [7].
Winding opening of the Hikaru Genji winding excellent poem
- Smell shrine
- 大姫物語(宇治十帖の前半・橋姫から早蕨まで)
- Japanese apricot with red blossoms
- Bamboo river
- 浮舟物語(宇治十帖の後半・宿木から夢浮橋まで)
