The education (すりらんかのきょういく) of Sri Lanka has the long history more than 2,000 years, and a basic right of the education is guaranteed in the constitution today. Literacy rate in Sri Lanka is 92.5%, and this is the number that is extremely higher than countries of other Third World and is the highest in the Southern Asia and is the number that is high even if I see it in the whole Asia.
It is said that the first education began in B.C. 543, but it is the 19th century when it was under colonial rule of the U.K. that a modern education system came up. The education becomes the central government and the jurisdiction of each state government in Sri Lanka.

Jurisdiction
Three ministries and government offices have jurisdiction over higher education にかけてを from an elementary course mainly. [2]
- Department of Education - school, ピリウェナ () (Buddhism school), teachers college, teachers' college
- The examination station () (Department of Examinations) - National examination
- High Department of Education - university
- The education service ministry (Ministry of Education Services) - Offer of facilities, facilities for general education
- Ministry of occupation, technical training (Ministry of Vocational & Technical Training) - Vocational education and technical school
However, there is the exception in this system, too. For example, some universities become the jurisdiction of the different ministry among higher education.
Beginning class, secondary education
The education of Sri Lanka is comprised of elementary course, youth secondary, senior secondary, collegiate, five phases of the higher education. There is a national examination called Scholarship Examination () in the elementary course at the time of the end in (grade 1-5) for 5-6 years. I am due to this examination, and the student can advance to the better school. (grade 6-9), senior secondary last two years as secondary education (grade 10-11) for youth secondary (middle school) four years when I finish an elementary course and will face the national examination called the O level () examination of General Certificate of Education () (G.C.E) this time [3].
By the law of Sri Lanka, all children are obliged to carry out education to grade 9 (14 years old) and continue studies after it or can choose you whether you work, and you take me. However, the Department of Education strongly recommends that all students continue studies to GCE-O level. The student in hope of higher education receives education of (grade 12-13) more in collegiate for two years after having passed GCE-O level examination and must challenge GCE-A level () examination. Therefore the GCE-A level examination has implication as the College Board in Sri Lanka. [3][4]
There are various ethnic groups in Sri Lanka, but a class is carried out only by only Singhalese or Tamil in many schools. In the elite school in Colombo and the big city such as the candy, a class in Singhalese, Tamil and English is carried out.

Public school building
Most of the Sri Lankan schools are for public, and the education is gratuitous. As of 2010, 9,685 public school buildings exist, and, as for the number of students, 3,940,000 people, the number of the teachers reach 210,000. 719 schools of those are ピリウェナ (). [4][5] when a state government was born by a constitutional amendment in the 1980s, most of public school buildings were delivered to the management bottom of the state government by the management bottom of the central government. However, some schools including the school from the colony times are left under management of the central government, and, as a result, three kinds of follows coexist in a Sri Lankan public school building.
- National school
- Provided school
- ピリウェナ (Buddhism school)
National school
The national school () is the school which the Department of Education manages directly and therefore is paid the budget directly from the ministry, too. Most of the national schools were established in the colony times, and a well-known school and elite school are included in these schools. There is the support of the graduate, and such a thing holds the history that is longer than average public school and good facilities. In late years a new school and some central schools are often updated to the national school, and the number becomes 340 as of 2010. [4][5]
Provided school
A provided school is a school occupying most of the Sri Lankan public school buildings. The budget is paid in the jurisdiction of the state government from the state, too, and, as a result, most are troubled by the lack of the poor-looking facilities and teacher.
ピリウェナ
ピリウェナ () is a Buddhism school and is the educational institution for Buddhist priests of the Buddhism. ピリウェナ functioned from the secondary education for people as an organization for higher education from the ancient times. 719 schools exist as of 2010 [5], and they are under the jurisdiction, the budget for Department of Education. The young Buddhist priest learns Ordination () of the Buddhism and the study for GCE-O level, A level examinations mainly in such ピリウェナ. After having graduated from ピリウェナ, they can receive the religious education of the higher level at a university.
School except the public
Private school
The Sri Lankan private school suddenly increased the numbers by the appearance of the high-ranking middle class of the colony times. The born private school performs Singhalese, Tamil, a class in English based on a curriculum established by the Department of Education in this way in the present age. Many private schools prepare the facilities which are newer than a public school building. As of 2010, there are 72 private schools in Sri Lanka, and, of these, 36 schools to remain at a private school (associate public school building) receiving support of the government where 36 schools do not collect school expenses are complete private schools collecting school expenses. [4][5]
International school
The international school is not necessarily confined only to the child of the foreign resident in Sri Lanka, and anyone can enter it if I can pay school expenses. However, the school expenses are high, and facilities and the education level become higher in a reason from the thing for foreigners mainly, too. The international school was not considered to be the jurisdiction of the Department of Education until the end of the 1980s, and it was the jurisdiction of investment agency (BOI). [4] As a result, the education that was greatly different from other schools is provided in these schools.
In most of the international schools, the learning that assumed the examination of O level of Edexcel () General Certificate of Education () (GCE), AS level, the A2 level is performed. Cambridge international official approval () (CIE) is also targeted in some schools, but is not common.
The oversea school of Calumba () is a representative international school, and the curriculum conforms to IB ディプロマ. As of 2012, the Sri Lankan IB participation school is only school and two schools of the British school in Calumba.
Higher education
The national university is also free in Sri Lanka. However, in the gate, it is limited to half of what I can enter extremely narrowly if [6] that is only under only 16% among the students with eligibility requirements for an examination (less than 16,000 people) becomes a graduate more [7]. The entrance to school to the university greatly depends on the result of the GCE-A level () examination. Therefore, only the student of the top-class of the urban area will be provided at an opportunity of the higher education, and it is forced to students who lost many places to go receiving higher education by other means. Approximately 8% of such students go to the overseas university [8], and I go to a public educational institution such as opening university of Sri Lanka () and SLIIT () and the ITS () which slightly exist or the educational institution such as private IIT (), or others will use a system of the foreign country University such as the London University communication course (). There is the way doing learning for authorized / participation of a foreign country and the domestic professional ability group (BCS, ACCA) and learning about the work to become a machine and the electric expert in a technical college. However, it is to give up a way catching the higher education from a financial problem to be the most common.
It is the point that is also important to the number of educational background refugees, and the problem that I cannot find a job occurs without the graduate being able to keep the degree alive in domestic and foreign both sides in many universities except medical care and IT, economy, law and engineering a few fields. When the education that more students are inexpensive in a mother country, and many intellectuals are better be received by such a reason, I require the establishment of the private university. North Colombo medical college () (NCMC) is one of such educational institutions and brings up their by hand superior doctors every day in Sri Lanka. However, a student and the left political party of the existing national university object to the establishment of the private university and come to a deadlock. In late years such a problem becomes the reason why a student likes a foreign territory and other educational institutions on behalf of a national university.
As of 2012, a national university of the high Department of Education jurisdiction that there is in Sri Lanka is only 15 schools. As a well-known university, Colombo University, University of Peradeniya, ルフナ University (), キャラニヤ University (), Dana plastic university () having bad pickpocket Djaja and Moratuwa University exist. It is allowed the revision of the university method to give an original degree in some other educational institutions. Public Sri Lankan information technology academy () (SLIIT) is known as such an educational institution most.
- Classification by the qualification of the higher education

- Master (Masters degree) - After having acquired one or more degrees, it is taught the study of the higher level

Vocational education, training
Vocational education, the training in Sri Lanka is managed by third classification vocational education Committee (TVEC) of the ministry of occupation, technique training. A curriculum and private enterprise and the disciple of Buddha training in the public organization based on the course of the occupation technology training center are included in this training. Some are treated as a university among the higher education systems in the field of occupation. It is 37 technical colleges () and Sri Lanka information technology academy () and Sri Lanka agricultural school that it is professional player Male bell as for defining seven phases of qualifications from level 1 to 7 in occupation qualification authorization system (NVQSL) of the whole country, and vocational education, training becoming the degree level in opening university of Sri Lanka () and occupation technology University UNIVOTEC on a day.
I stand and give a vocational education plan for the adult who does not receive a person of school leaving school in midcourse and education separately from this in the Department of Education. Most of such a course are held in a community center (), and law of nature beauty, sewing, a carpenter, the plumbing, the wide range such as the picture are intended for.
