Formation

Constitution

The whole is comprised of three movements of 緩 - immediate - 緩.

Three good nominates において, seven fragmentary motifs (motive) for "nothing from a distant place", but state that these are not "the subjects". Seven motives constitute the melodious harmony-like side of the work by being transformed in various form [1].

Seven motive

  • Motive 1 appears in the first movement beginning [2]. I consist of the chords of the vertical axis called "C-Es-Ges" shown by a cello, a note row called "H-C-F" shown by a viola and a cello, a contrabass, a piano.
  • Motive 2 appears to first movement, exercise number 3 [3]. It is the melody consisting of note rows called "Des-B-A-As-C-D-Cis-Es-C-H" shown by a flute.

  • Motive 6 appears to second movement, exercise number 8 [7]. It is the melody consisting of note rows called "D-Es-A-B-Fis-G-Des-C-H-F-Ges-Des-C" shown by a cello and a viola.
  • Motive 7 appears in the third movement beginning [8]. It is the melody consisting of combinations of flute, horn, "tone melody" and counterpoint by the bassoon delivered by a trumpet (the subject of the variation).

The first movement

A ternary form of ABA. The A part makes a gloomy atmosphere mainly on a stringed instrument and I use many percussion instruments and form a climax of the B part. A woodwind instrument talks with a stringed instrument in the recurring A part and terminates on the ti which a cello and a vibraphone play calmly.

The second movement

The rapid movement which does not come under a specific form. I use many strange time and have a scherzo-like property. Different motive four or five of the character, 6 are transformed variously.

The third movement

Variation。 Minute variation is developed in the first half part and I quicken speed in the part in the latter half and become exalted. I reduce volume and the number of musical instruments rapidly when I form the climax of the atmosphere like the second movement, and ディヴィジ leaves for the quiet end mainly on a done stringed instrument and flute finely. This movement is played by wind music well.
