トリクリニウム

トリクリニウム

トリクリニウム (triclinium) is an official dining room in the buildings of the ancient Roman age. The word that came from τρικλίνιον(triklinion) of the Greek, and put τρι-(tri-, three), κλίνη (klinē, sofa) together. I am characterized by surrounding Mikata of the low table with three sofas and am a slant of approximately 10 degrees from the top surface of the sofa to a table. I half lay on a sofa and ate. The sofa is not put on the fourth mask of the table, and it seems that probably I emptied it for waitpersons [1]. トリクリニウム was common in a rich house of the ancient Roman age in particular [2]. There is トリクリニウム reproduced exactly in House of Caro of archeology Museum and Pompeii of アレッツォ.

The meal was a ceremony and was continued from late afternoon to the middle of the night in ancient Roman life. The visitor from nine to 20 is invited and decides the order of the seat in consideration of the position of relative close friendship with the master and the visitor. トリクリニウム is a quiet, special room, and extremely precise decoration is given, and there is a picture (or a mosaic) in the center. ディオニューソス, a Venus, a still-life picture of the food were popular as a subject. There is at least two トリクリニウム in midstream and the Roman house of the upper class, and it is rare that there is more than four. トリクリニウム (triclinium maius) of the big one was used at the party of a great number of people.

When I treated few special visitors, トリクリニウム of the small one was used. Therefore it was precise in degree same as トリクリニウム of the room which was big even if decoration was small one. Wine and food and love featured the theme and, like big トリクリニウム, were popular. But is more serious by interior decoration of トリクリニウム to deepen a supporter and friendship, and to perform reading aloud (recitation) of the grand literature such as the epic as entertainment at table; might feature the theme, and, for example, might take the subject from "アエネーイス". At many houses of Pompeii, small トリクリニウム (triclinium minus) constituted adjacent bedroom (cubiculum) and a bathroom and a suite.
