宗旦狐
The simulation fox that 宗旦狐 (そうたんぎつね) comes to the aspect country temple of Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto-shi. When I disguise myself as person, Sotan Senno who strengthened the basics of person of 1,000 tea ceremony and often appeared in the tea-ceremony room, according to the name of "宗旦", I am said to be it.
Tradition
When there was it, a tea party of Sotan Senno was held in an aspect country temple. In front of a wonderful point of 宗旦, even pupils who always got used to it admired it not to mention masters of tea ceremony who attended. However, after 宗旦 left the place, 宗旦 appeared again and apologized for having been late. There was such a thing several times, and pupils have begun to think that an impostor was in 宗旦.
They waited until time when 宗旦 appeared in the tea-ceremony room, and pupils questioned 偽宗旦 closely later after having checked that 宗旦本人 was in the home. Then because 偽宗旦 revealed that oneself was an impostor obediently, and oneself was the sly old fox who lived in the thicket of the temple, and longed for etiquette of the tea preparation of 宗旦 much more, oneself wanted to do such an etiquette of the tea preparation sometime, too; when never did mischief, it was the figure of an apology, the fox, and ran. Pupils admire skill in 宗旦狐, and there was not the thing chasing a fox.
Time goes by; and the late Tokugawa period. 宗旦狐 changed itself into an itinerant and studied in an aspect country temple. I made Zen meditation with other itinerants and played religious mendicancy and made power in order to sometimes rebuild the financial difficulty of the temple. I might hit the go in the house of the door front. They might take out a foxtail because they got absorbed in go, but the people went together while knowing the real nature of the fox.
A tray of a certain age. The tofu maker of the door front fell into it just before bankruptcy from financial difficulties. 宗旦狐 gathered a lot of leaves of the lotus and recommended it to sell it, and to exchange it with money, and to buy a soybean. The tofu maker was able to rebuild a shop thanks to the grace. The tofu maker who intended to cost reward made the tempura of the mouse which the fox loved and gave 宗旦狐 it. However, it was said that supernatural power was lost when 宗旦狐 ate it and declined. However, the eyes have eaten it without being able to endure a favorite dish in nailing it carelessly. 宗旦狐 returned to the figure of the original fox immediately, and neighboring dogs to see it have begun to bark intensely. The fox escaped at once in a thicket, but because I was upset, I fell into the well and have lost my life (even if I was shot with a gun by the opinion by a hunter or realize the death by oneself and held a parting tea party, it is said).
The aspect country temple felt pity for death of 宗旦狐 which I exerted for a temple and built the small shrine as 宗旦稲荷 and assumed a fox the guardian deity of the meditation hall. 宗旦稲荷 is enshrined in the aspect country temple precincts now.
