Sogenji (Taito-ku)

Sogenji (I appear so) is a temple of the Soto sect at 3, Matsugaya, Taitou-ku, Tokyo. I am known as a rain jacket temple.

History

Our temple was founded near Edo, Wadakura-mon Gate in (1588) for Tensho era 16 years. I moved by a big fire of the Meiryaku era here afterwards [1].

In the here whole area, the drainage was often troubled badly in low land by a flood, too. Therefore merchant, rain jacket shop Kihachi of here cast materials and constructed the excavation of new Horikawa (as there is the current rain jacket bridge tool town.derived one of the name of the rain jacket Bridge.).

According to the legend, it is said that a kappa told to have lived in the Sumida River of the neighborhood was responsible at this construction. Kihachi died in (1814) for culture 11 years and I was buried in our temple which was a family temple and came to be said to be "a rain jacket temple" gradually.

I called reputation afterwards when there was various benefit when the kappa which helped with this construction saw it. And I am worshiped as "kappa great gracious god", and a miracle is said that there is it for business prosperity, and it is said to our temple that I came to be worshiped.
