カイノキ (楷樹, a scientific name: Pistacia chinensis) is fallen leaves Takagi of the cashew family カイノキ genus. It is closely related with the pistachio of the same cashew family in the same sort. Alias カイジュ, ランシンボク [¹] (爛心木) [²], トネリバハゼノキ, naan van goby (Western Haji), クシノキ (tree of Confucius). In China, I am called the 黃 wooden pestle.

Because カイノキ has a thing and small leaves branching off into a right angle neatly, it is said that it was named for the block style. It comes from what this tree which child Mitsugu of the pupil planted in the cemetery "hole forest" of Confucius in Shangdong Qufu plants クシノキ of another name from generation to generation, and is inherited. In addition, it is planted in the Confucius shrine of each place. Form, habits

Distribution

I grow wild in the warm area of the East Asia. A seed picked in hole forest in 1915 was introduced into Japan and was planted in the experimental forestry station (forest Park of the current forest trial) of Meguro-ku, Tokyo.

Relation with the human being

Because I donate big tree in summer and turn red beautifully in autumn, it is planted in a roadside tree, a park or the garden.

The young leave has a specific sweet smell and is made a substitute of the tea and it is edible as vegetables and is done.

The materials are hard, and, as for the heartwood, grain of wood is beautiful with cadmium yellow. It is excellent furniture materials and is used for ship materials, a stick, a go board.

It is cultivated that seminal 42.26% consist of oil and use it for fuel and biodiesel fuel with (as for the oil content of 仁部分 56.5%) [³].
