The history and name
The construction work of JLime was started to realize Linux distribution to move on HP 6xx Jornada at about the end of 2003. The JLime project aimed for becoming the distribution to bring rapidity and portability on Jornada. Jornada was not supported in the 2.6 kernel (because there was not the machine for a developer and the test), and the first aim of the project was to realize the boot of the 2.6.9 kernel.
In February, 2006, the site of Jlime was renewed by forum user "chazco" [1].
I work recently in order to add NEC MobilePro 900 to a support apparatus in (the 2007 first-quarter).
JLime installer
"Chazco" and "B_Lizzard" of the developer made an initrd-based installation tool. I can install JLime in Jornada when I use it without using the different Linux machine. Many PDA systems used the flash memory, but Jornada did not have the function. Therefore, JLime is installed on the CF card (I cut a partition). The installer uses the dialogue-oriented interface of the textbase.
Package management
JLime treats a package in tool ipkg which minimized a function of the APT (cf. package system of administration). I use any existing Internet connection, or it is local, and installation / deletion / update is possible. I download it, and the dependence is handled with a package automatically by so-called feeding repository [2].
IceWM on Jornada
JLime is complete Linux distribution and uses IceWM now as GUI environment. As application to work on IceWM in JLime, Minimo, X-Chat, Dillo, ROX-Filer, AbiWord, Leafpad, Torsmo are had.
