The tire which has four (in 1998 as for three front wheel use) parallel grooves to the circumference direction that グルーブドタイヤ (grooved tyre) is F1 from 1998 through 2008, and was used. It is a meaning of "I dig the groove" in English with groove.

I am touched for the purpose of reducing the bearing area of the tire not a thing for drainage like the tire for the general car, and this groove reducing a grip, and reducing the speed of the F1 machine. As part of a speed control by FIA which felt danger for a rise in speed of the F1, I was used by a rule in the regulation from 1998. It is switched from 2009 to a racing slick again.

The groove of グルーブドタイヤ is a tire for the fine weather not a thing for drainage like the said article to the last (dry tire). I use the wet tire which a groove for the drainage is in when a road surface gets wet because of rain. Furthermore, I use a tire (extreme weather) for the stormy weather when rain is strong. Naturally a ditch is contained in a wet tire and extreme weather, but does not call these グルーブドタイヤ.

Background

For the purpose of reducing the bearing area with the road surface, and controlling cornering speed, a regulation change to thin the width of the rear tire 3 inches (approximately 7.6cm) from 18 inches to 15 inches in 1993 was performed. However, as the compensation that corner ring speed decreased, the side effect of the rise of the straight speed by the drop of the front projection area occurred. It is グルーブドタイヤ to lower the bearing area with the road surface to without it changing the width of the tire that FIA began to knit as a control of the further cornering speed because narrow 化 of the tire does not serve as a purpose.

Action

Original according to purpose, the drop of the bearing area with the road surface led to restraint of the corner ring speed, but グルーブドタイヤ showed the characteristic that I did not experience with the racing slick. One is movement of rubber in the corner ring by a ditch being contained. The slimy handling in a corner ring may trouble a driver. In addition, it is that I go wrong, and the phenomenon called the inning is generated. While I go wrong, and the inning is a new article tire by being able to sharpen the rubber of the part of the edge of groove in the same way as time when I rubbed against an eraser, and remaining in the tread side, it is the problem that a grip level does not go up as for several laps before the rubber being worn neatly. I will have a big influence on an engineer, the driver including a geometry change of the suspension and the change of the setting method, the change of the driving-style to solve these problems.
