Berlin = da rem botanical garden (Berlin = da rem しょくぶつえん, Botanischer Garten und Botanisches Museum Berlin-Dahlem) is a botanical garden located in the シュテーグリッツ = ツェーレンドルフ ward of Germany Berlin. 22,000 kinds of plants are cultivated on the site of 43 hectares. It is the facility of the Berlin free university, but the university is an independent research facility. The visitors count hundreds of thousands of a year.
For a name, the district name da rem () of the ward is named, but is really located in the adjacent Richter Velde district ().
History
Though an orchard and vegetables garden for the Imperial Court were established by Desiderius コルビアヌス (Desiderius Corbianus) of the gardener in the times of the Marquis choice emperor Johan George third of the 16th century, it sails it up that a botanical garden was made in Berlin first. A plan is made in 1895 by Adolf Engler and others, and Kingdom of Prussia assembly approves a plan in 1897. To the director that Engler was new, Ulu van became a vice-director. 2,500 first audiences dressed fully in April, 1903 and entered a kindergarten and outdoor facilities were completed in 1904 and were opened to the public. It is May, 1910 when a building of the botany Museum was completed on an official open day.
However, the interchange with the foreign territory was limited under the Nazi Administration, and the garden declined by destruction in World War II again. The garden was reopened after the war in 1945 by Berlin occupation of the Allied Forces, but was used for the cultivation of food vegetables until Berlin blockade was finished. The rebuilding was begun by financial support of the United States of America in 1949, and the new large greenhouse "Victoria house" was completed in 1950, and the rebuilding of the garden completed it in 1968. The rebuilding of the botany Museum continued until 1987. The garden and the museum became the facilities of the Berlin free university from 1996.
