Starlight electron

Starlight electron

The starlight electron (and I do not boil Seiko) is the OS-9-related software house which there was ever in Japan. I developed hardware using 6809 early.

Summary

The company which a starlight line of the founder founded with several friends. I assumed it a starlight electron from the name of the star. The star established a starlight electron after BADGE system use in the Air Self-Defense Force after graduation from high school in engineering company duty (editor of magazine I/O), 1981 in 1976. In Jay technical center Co., Ltd., I am engaged in the employee education of the field of integration software, electricity, the electronic field now. Tokyo Institute of Technology, Waseda University, Ritsumeikan University visiting lecturer. Design robot contest headquarters practice chairperson software from 2005.

It releases EXCEL-9 (I announce the prototype by a name TOMATO-9 by I/O) of the adding on card for AppleII as the first product of the starlight electron after development as an independent system in EXCEL-8.

I know operating system, OS-9 for 6809 which I developed of the American microwear (Microware Systems Corporation, current RadiSys Corporation) and am going to enter into an agency contract, but get a right of Authorized OS-9 Implementor as substitute afterwards because a microboard (the maker of the board computer for the industry settles it after it was in a consolidated subsidiary of INTEC) which there was in Funabashi-shi, Chiba was engaged. But this droit was limited to OS-9/6809.

After this, a starlight electron dealt with OS-9/6809 implemented by a personal computer made in a Japanese major maker single-handed. (other hardware including the embedded business had the thing which a starlight electron dealt with, but was able to transplant porting by oneself by a user because there were many done things, and the microwear provided a port kit for the user to transplant OS-9)

The microboard which linked the agency contract to the American microwear established the subsidiary where an agency worked, microwear Japan (Funabashi-shi, Chiba) and performed business mainly on licensing agreement of OS-9 or sale, the consulting of the microwear product (port kits). But, in 1989, an American microwear would establish the Japanese subsidiary of the 100% subsidiary, microwear systems and finished agency duties. Because a starlight electron was established as for the microwear systems by the cause, I was established by Hasegawa Building of Akihabara where I entered of the starlight electron. The staff mainly consisted of the person whom I transferred to from a starlight electron and the microwear Japan. In addition, from such a process, the sale of the handling product (CSG IMS) of the starlight electron continued for a while, too.

When what was adopted to a compact-disc interactive as CD-RTOS was excluded, OS-9 after OS-9/68000 became often adopted as a real time system for the industry. Particularly, I came to be used in the MULTIBUS/VME bus board which adopted 680x0 almost normally. (it was rare that it was adopted with a personal computer for the 6809 era abroad)

But, by the industrial use, powerful hardware gradually spreads, and the mainstream moves to the product which for it, did larger-scale VxWorks and Linux not the slim product which the real time system elaborated by a minute design such as OS-9 in real time, and the management of the microwear suddenly turns worse. As a result, in July, 2001, I was purchased in ラディシス. This was not a problem only for microwears, and the vendor which developed other Real-time Operating System was similar, and some vendors disappeared by the purchase.

A product and the that works

The best known thing will be OS-9 of each FM-8/FM-7/FM-11/FM-77/FM77AV series in the FM series of Fujitsu. In FM-11AD2 in particular and AD2+, OS-9 was bundled by default, and it was a premise to use OS-9. Actually, copying, "OS-9 replied" that pushed OS-9 on the front was spent the magazine advertisement of Fujitsu for, too.

In addition, it was adopted with 6809 much adoption computers including MB-S1 of Hitachi, Ltd., but the model that OS-9 was bundled by default was only FM-11.

In addition, the work of the starlight electron was not only simple transplant of OS-9/6809.

There are many など, functions that I developed originally. Anything was by the function that was epoch-making for an 8 bits opportunity and high efficiency.

KSys provides kanji conversion at almost all character terminals which a kanji can display. It is not necessary to remodel a console and the screwdriver of the serial port especially. Of course the binary to be resident in memory is one (through the 8 bits letter, there were some conditions) even if I log in how many people because it is reentrant, and there does not need to be the thing wasting memory idly.

As for the multiwindow, n divides a console, and each works as a console. The font size of the character is not changed.

Because not only I share file system like NFS, but also OS-9LAN can share the device, for example, a printer connected to other machines over a network can print a file by redirection. A microwear adopted this OS-9LAN as an authentic sample, and the OS-9/680x0 version was made, too and was used widely. As for the hardware, ArcNet which spread at first in Netware was used. Because I did not depend on the hardware other than a driver, it supported an Ethernet.

In addition, I was in charge of the development of the OS-9/68000 board for FM-11 which Fawkes (subsidiary of the microboard) released. In addition, as for peeling off, Fawkes developed peeling off PC-9801 サピエンス FM-16β.

In addition, I sold the application software made in the optional software and third party of the microwear.
