Mukoujima (Fushimi-ku)
Mukoujima (むかいじま) is the place name in the southern part of Fushimi-ku, Kyoto-shi.

Geographical features
It is located on the opposite bank across Uji River with the Fushimi-ku center of commerce. Mukoujima new subdivision lined with high-rise apartments is located in the southern part.
History
It was a sandbar of nature which floated in the damp area called 巨椋池, but, in the Azuchimomoyama era, repair work of Uji River was performed with Fushimi Kizuki Castle of Hideyoshi. The northern part of the whole area among built Magishima bank and Ogura banks becomes Mukoujima on this occasion.
