The name of a street of Kawanaka depends on this district being located in the alluvial plain that beautiful clothes Kikawa does. A rich westward advance village (とよにししもそん) in former Toyora-gun is renamed to the Kawanaka village and is admitted into Shimonoseki-shi in (1937) in 1937.
In late years residential land development advanced, and population increased drastically. Kajikurigo-Daichi Station was founded at the position of north 1.1km of San'in Main Line Ayaragi Station in March, 2008. (there is "Kaji chestnut station" before the war near the station, and the virtually first station in 67 years revives once)
