Career

I become a professional and pr it

For the Georgia college of engineering era, I am picked three times by the college baseball MVP.

For the Barcelona Olympics of 1992, I was picked with ノマー Garcia Parra who was the teammate of the school by a representative from baseball United States of America [1]. In addition, other than Georgia engineering department college student days, Garcia Parra, it was a teammate with Jay Payton.

I was appointed in the draft first round (the whole 21st place) in 1993 by Minnesota Twins, but refuse a joining an organization contract.

Post with professional

I won a prize for Golden spike in 1994, and it was appointed the first round (the whole 14th place) in the draft by Seattle Mariners and entered into a joining an organization contract on April 20, 1995.

I transfer to Boston Red Sox with Derek low by a trade with Heathcliff Slocumb on July 31, 1997. A measure makes its debut in game with Detroit Tigers of September 24, the same year, but the participation remains only for this one game.

I participate in 86 games in 1998.

I get a regular in 1999 and participate in 144 games.

I record .73 runs batted in of self-best batting average .296.18 home runs in 2004. In addition, even as to defense led Pedro Martinez and Curt Schilling and others and led a team to one for the first time in 86 years of the world. I declare a free agent after the season. The leading players such as Pedro Martinez or the Derek low declared FA other than Bali technical center in the team, too, but the baseball team gives top priority to the re-contract of the Bali technical center, and a contract of 4 a total of 40 million dollars a year is established [2]. I was appointed at the same time for Carl Yastrzemski, the team third generation next to the gym rice by a captain. Therefore a mark of "C" indicating being a captain was ticked away on the uniform of the Bali technical center by the left chest.

I won Gold Glove Award and Silver Slugger Award at the same time in 2005 and became catcher on behalf of a league.

I was picked in March before the start in 2006 by a representative from United States of America of the first WBC [3]. However, the disabled list becomes containing it, and, meanwhile, the team is sluggish with 11 wins 22 defeats by the cartilage damage [4] of the knee until September 3 on July 31 in the championship season.

I am sluggish with .43 runs batted in of batting average .220.13 home runs in 2008. I completed a contract for four years and declared FA after a season.

It was reported that I agreed for 1 a total of 5 million dollars a year (in the second year a baseball team option of 5 million dollars, Bali technical center an option of 3 million dollars) on January 30, 2009 [5].

The continuation active in 2011 in the one-year contract of 2 million dollars + option.

On March 1, 2012, I announce the retirement.

Characteristic as the player

The shoulder was not strong, but a ball block and a block at the time of the cross play which did not miss the ball behind showed a lead outstanding of a measure well.

Known as the thing that was better than other catchers pitcher's earned run average when was good at drawing power from a pitcher, and Bali technical center took up the defensive position [6]. I act as the catcher of the no-hit, no-run game of four times to become Hideo Nomo (on April 4, 2001 game with Orioles), Derek low (on April 27, 2002 game with Devil Rays), clay back Holtz (on September 1, 2007 game with Orioles), John Leicester (on May 19, 2008 game with Royals) and the major most record [7].

I made much of スカウティングレポート and a video document, and it was the Bali technical center that was the pivot of the team, but there was the knuckle ball of Tim wake Field as a weak point for offense and defense. When a wake field pitched by an American League championship playoff fifth war of 2004, the Bali technical center recorded three passed ball after 1 inning. In the case of the pitch, the pitcher waited not Bali technical center all over the season, and Doug Mira Berri and the Kevin cash of the catcher participated. I talk about the Bali technical center with "a way key (wake field) and one crossing work at all at all because they often paired with a pitcher assembling a throw mainly on a fast ball from childhood" [8].
