The earth crust expands with an ascent of mantle of the earth, and the lift (British: rift[1]) is broken and is the geology term which extension action works in the earth crust, and points to the shape that there was.
The reason why dislocation develops linearly is that the earth crust spreads to both sides. It may not be considered that volcanic activity is seen. There are trough between two parallel faults (graben) and horst (Holst) in dislocation.
