Shiretoko mountain pass (しれとことうげ) is a mountain pass of National highway No. 334 in the boundary of Rausu-cho, Menashi-gun, Hokkaido and Shari-cho, Shari-gun. It becomes the border of the Nemuro Promotion Bureau and the Okhotsk synthesis Promotion Bureau.
As for (almost from the end of October to the end of April), section of extension 23.8km is closed to traffic in winter during a period [1].

Summary
I sail across the Shiretoko peninsula and am called Shiretoko crossing road. It is used as a sightseeing in wide area road of interchange of economy, the culture between Rausu - Shari, world heritage "Shiretoko" and Eastern Hokkaido [2].
Because the change of the climate is remarkable, and become the severe condition for the road management including a snowslide and the landslide, is closed to traffic by a snowfall alone on a national highway in Hokkaido [2]; [3] [4]. The news of the snow-removal work and the opening to traffic of the Shiretoko mountain pass becomes the spring natural scene or object which adds poetic charm to the season of Hokkaido.
History
I refer to "the history of the Shiretoko crossing road" in the Rausu-cho public information magazine [2].
- (1907), 植別村 (existing Rausu-cho) town official surveyed Rausu with the volunteer in the village from Iwaobetsu in 1907.
- A way of the sidewalk degree was excavated in wartime from Rausu to Utoro as a military road.
- (1949), mayor Goichi Murata are petitions by the excavation of the road reaching in Shari-cho ルサ - Utoro from Rausu ルサ in Hokkaido for 1,949 years.

There is Shiretoko mountain pass parking lot and becomes View Point [8]. The view from the mountain pass is chosen as one of the Shiretoko eight beauty spots and can see northern territories Kunashir if sea of trees, the weather of Rausudake and the creeping pine are good [9].
The Rausu side 650m above sea level point is called a reward mountain pass from a mountain pass top part, and a hairpin curve (break a bamboo clothes box) continues.
