Life

As Armenian Sueko who emigrated to the United States from the eastern part of Turkey in 1905, I was born in Fresno of California. I lost father at time of the 1 year old and a half and entered an orphan home of Oakland with four elder brothers and elder sisters, and, five years later, I was taken over by mother of the factory girl. Since 12 years old of the middle of studies, I made money in telegram delivery or newsgirls. I wanted to be a writer and, from about 1930, wrote it in a magazine and the newspaper.

I was known by "the youth who got on the trapeze" whom I picked up on (26 years old), the story magazine (Story) in 1934 and after that it was slightly bitter brightly and continued spelling the joys and sorrows of the common people with an easy writing style. I wrote the script of the movie.

To "my center height Hara" at the age of 1938 30 years old of と, the next year of "you life time" hit it in Broadway, and, in 1940, the latter was given the Pulitzer Prize of the drama section, but declined it. Of the same year publication "my name Aram" was translated into each national language, and, in Japan, a translation version of Shunji Shimizu was published in November, 1941 just before the Pearl Harbor attack by six interest publication.

I published "a human comedy" with (35 years old), a scenario as a novel in February in 1943, and a movie was shown in the next month and, in 1944, thereby received academy top flight Writing - Screenplay - Original Award. This was shown with the title of "the popular person of the town" in 1947 by Japan.

In 1943, I still got married with Carol Grace (English version) (I came to be known as a model of "Breakfast At Tiffany's" later) of the actress who was 19 years old and got two children, but, for his character and modus vivendi, I got a divorce in 1949 and returned in 1951 and got a divorce in the next year. There was right Saroyan in the heyday of the writer, but, according to Carol, I liked an unparalleled gamble, and the violence was intense, too. Children looked at the place where mother was given up by father and was strangled [1]. After a divorce, children lived with Carol, and he lived alone in a house of California and an apartment of Paris.

I might be with summer vacation Minoko and others in Europe, but gradually estranged it. The writer who continued spelling the joys and sorrows of the common people brightly was not necessarily a warm husband, gentle father.

As for Aramic (Aram Saroyan) (1943 -) of the son, Rue sea (Lucy Saroyan) (1946-2003) of the daughter matured into an actress to a writer. Carol who was a wife married again with Walter Matthau for 1,959 years.

In 1981, they sank in Fresno for prostate cancer, and the ashes were buried in California and Armenia.
