"Koto (for joy) of the joy" is a drama of Yukio Mishima. I consist of all three. The work which I described the tragedy of the young public peace policeman betrayed by the boss whom I shared the same thought and should have trusted in. It is a color called 昂揚 of the subject of the relief anti-communism thought, the second curtain the first curtain the nihilism (the chief character is in this way hammered in into Hell of the Asura) as the Jun thesis, the third curtain second place the Antithese, the third curtain first place [1].
I was placed in (1964), the literary magazine "sentence art" February issue in 1964 and was published a book as "琴附, Mino child of the joy" from Shinchosha on February 25, the same year. The premiere was staged in Nissei Theater on May 7, the same year. The library version is collected by "Chikuma Japanese literature 10 Yukio Mishima" of the Chikuma library.
"The koto of the joy" was going to be staged as a performance (1964) at first by a literature seat for New Year holidays in 1964 and it was finished writing (1963) in the previous year on October 24 in 1963 and entered the lesson at November 15, but the presentation cancellation by the reason in the thought was offered to author, Mishima by the flow of the resolution of the emergency general meeting on November 20 that I invited theatrical company head, Haruko Sugimura who went back from the Soviet Union, Europe. The withdrawal case ("a koto case of the joy") by the member of a troupe of 10 several who went along with Mishima and it triggered by this happened [2]. Mishima states, "the work which this play torments me of the author by various circumstances, and tormented many people again is rare" [1].

And, as for him, it is to a conscious human being for the first time when I go up 這 ひ from the hell by the power of the sound of the koto of Officer Kawazoe. 加 does not have me in an explanatory note on purpose what the sound of this koto is.

In addition, Mishima announces the criticism "Fusao Hayashi theory" (1963) in February 1963, but it is "林房雄諭" that "started my thought with the form of the review about the connection with other works announced for the same period, and what I did in a novel states "the koto of the joy" with "towing and "the sword" in the afternoon" with drama といふことになります" [5].
Outline
It is the afternoon of 19th from first curtain - near future morning of January 18
- A person in charge of public peace room of the Tokyo certain ward Honcho police station which the world circulates through "the censorship method", and is turbulent. Policemen who worked there worked hard for the investigation of the doubtful person including the Chinese called the forest of the Chinese restaurant which was supposedly the anti-Japan spy who entered it illegally. Above all, the Katagiri policeman of the subordinate who respected person in charge of Matsumura public peace police sergeant and him who were known as staunch anticommunism got the information of the train overturn plan that the extreme left seemed to plan. I obtained the thing which seemed to be a code of the time of express Koshiji of planned Joetsu Line which the Prime Minister took from Takasaki Station on January 21 from Sado of the cooperator.

- In the Honcho police station, Director Matsumura let Officer Katagiri leave for the investigation of the doubtful hut which there was near an on-site track based on original information. The Prime Minister did not take a train in prior information, but the rollover accident happened, and it was the tragic incident that a dead person went for. Officer Katagiri arrested three men of the right-wing organization who were in the hut and confiscated the radiotransmitter which fell into the spot. It was considered that the case was a plot by the right-wingers who schemed leftist loss, and Officer Katagiri who disclosed a case was treated like a hero by co-workers of the Honcho police station. However, the men of the arrested right-wing organization were proved to be a margin by the investigation of the central government office, and they were released.
It is the morning of 23rd from the third curtain -1 night of 22nd a month
- To Officer Katagiri who watched over the night duty, the head who came home from the central government office came over and I said, "I say that a criminal met you and wanted to talk" and brought plain-clothes Matsumura whom handcuffs were had on in the room. In fact, the train overturn case depended on a plot of Matsumura who crawled into the security police as a spy of extreme left party seceders. Forerunner, everybody of the same political party escaped to the temple truth by the guide of a Chinese, the forest overseas. I deceived the radical elements of the right wing well, and Matsumura lured it into a hut and assumed a case the act of the right wing and was going to spark pretense society uneasiness as if the government and a capitalist ran over a thread in the back. The extreme left group planned to push forward the campaign that "the censorship method" was performed a total scan of by the nation. And Sado was a liaison man to Matsumura, too. Officer Katagiri was used for disguised work of Matsumura to love and respect.
- I looked at Matsumura restricted by handcuffs and, towards Katagiri to kick, Matsumura explained about all the details and told whether "indeed you" were と voice by impulse to destruction. Betrayed Katagiri got angry at Matsumura who believed that it was a senior to respect, but Matsumura challenged you to a verbal battle saying it "is your crime to have believed me". The thought fell into Katagiri who lived in absolutization of the thought as the only support in relative absolute loneliness that it was become.
- On the next morning, Officer Katagiri was cheered up by a co-worker and a cleaning lady, but the heart was apt to be sunk. And an ear of Officer such Katagiri heard the tone of the koto which Officer Kawazoe in charge of the traffic told to hear it from the sky in the interval of the demonstration before. Other people did not hear the tone, and Officer Kawazoe was treated like an eccentric by everybody, but an ear of Officer Katagiri has begun to just hear the tone of the koto which felt relaxed of the clear quiet heart clearly. Officer Kawazoe told Officer Katagiri "do you hear it?". And, as for two people, Isono who was hearing for other people listened carefully in the splendid investigation of "the koto of the joy" and returned to work again.
Work evaluation, interpretation
The evaluation of "the koto of the joy" is divided into a pro and con, and Hirotsugu Ozaki describes it as it in Mishima drama saying "it is not a high work of the artistic freshness" [6], and, for a negative thing, Takashi Nomura states "between the subject and a subject" that I lack in harmony [7]. It is said, "I look like a revolution praise drama let alone an anti-communism drama", and, for an affirmative thing, Takeo Okuno evaluates opposition to convention characteristics [8].

松本鶴雄は、二転三転するどんでん返しが「実に巧妙」で、「松村と片桐の対立は凄絶な心理劇の定石通り緊迫して進行する」と高評価しながら、「本当の美は悪魔的状況の中に、あるいは人間不信と絶望の背徳の中から花開くという、三島文学の一貫したテーマがここにもいかんなく描かれている」と解説している[10]。
村松剛は、三島が次の戯曲『恋の帆影』の解説の中で、ヒロインが嵐の一夜の後に、「実存的な目ざめ」をし、「それまで彼女を縛めてゐた〈純潔〉の観念が、実は真の実存からの逃避であつたこと、生の〈本来的な憂慮(ゾルゲ)の様相〉の拒否であつたことを、つひに彼女は知るにいたる。(この点では、「恋の帆影」の女主人公の純潔は、「喜びの琴」の主人公の純潔と、まるでちがつたもののやうに見えながら、実は相照応してゐる)」[11]と述べていることを鑑みて、『喜びの琴』の琴の音には、ヘルダーリンの詩『帰郷』に現れる故郷への回帰がもたらす喜びの「絃の弾奏」の影響をあるのではないかと推察している[12][注釈 1]。
大久保典夫は、敗戦後2年目に書かれた太宰治の短編『トカトントン』と、安保騒動の3年後に書かれた『喜びの琴』が共に、「きわめてアクチュアルな作品」であり、「トカトントン」という金槌の音と同じく、「コロリンシャン」という琴の音も、「いっさいの信頼や情熱そのものを空無化する作用」を果たしているとし[13]、太宰の『トカトントン』が、「ミリタリズムの幻影の剥落した敗戦直後」と対応しているのと同様に、三島の『喜びの琴』は、「戦後革命の幻想の崩壊した60年安保後の現実」を捉えていると考察している[13]。
