Ferdinand de Lesseps
Ferdinand Mali ヴィコント de Lesseps (Ferdinand Marie Vicomte de Lesseps, from November 19, 1805 to December 7, 1894) is a French diplomat, businessman. I am known by having built the Suez Canal.
Life
In 1805, I was born among Spanish Catherine with diplomat マティユ de Lesseps () in Versailles. Bartholomew Lesseps () of the uncle participates in a sounding out place hard to pass voyage of la Peru's 伯; the author of the trip diary (French: Journal historique du voyage de M. de Lesseps) of report Lesseps. I resided as an ambassador from 1848 through 1849 in Madrid. I stopped the diplomat's post in 1849, but, in 1854, lost a wife and a son in a retired person in succession.
In the occasion when I was with disappointment, Khedive Abbas pasha was assassinated. When the Saeed pasha of the student who did a tutor for the Cairo consul era succeeded to the throne in 1854, I visited it and was welcomed. At this time, I suggested development of the Suez Canal and got an agreement. But the case without the approval of the Ottoman Empire sultan who was an Egyptian suzerain was what's called invalidity. Ottoman Empire objected for fear of a canal becoming Turkey and the border of Egypt.
I was given the excavation right on November 30, the same year, but originally I was against a canal, and the U.K. which I considered to be a menace to commerce of the own country put pressure on Ottoman Empire sultan and often interfered.
I persuaded Prime Minister Napoleon III who was a relative and British Palmerston, and Lesseps gave a lecture many times in the U.K., but the start of construction of the construction delayed it. However, Lesseps did not give it up and established international Suez Canal Co., Ltd. in 1854 and appealed to world opinion by selling the stocks. In the next year, I started construction under the name of examination digging as Ottoman Empire sultan nonrecognition.
Saeed dies suddenly in January, 1863. Ismail Pasha took a successor. The U.K. pressured Ottoman Empire sultan and Ismail more, but French emperor, Napoleon III entered the arbitration, and I overcame difficulty construction and the spread of the epidemic, and completed it in 1869, and the imperial family and the celebrity of each 7,000 countries attended an opening ceremony. The Suez Canal company raised vast profit and, as it were, presented one national aspect afterwards.
I work on Panama Canal development in the later years and take office as Panama Canal company president in 1881. However, the construction in Panama where yellow fever raged was full of difficulty and, in addition, reputation turned worse for disorder of the management and came to a deadlock for subscription for funds. I publish an approved wealth premium bond by the establishment of the new law and tried for an offer, but a company goes bankrupt in 1889. A famous political scandal case in Panama happens in history. Imprisonment five years were sentenced to on the charge of breach of trust and fraud, and he gained an acquittal in areopagy as a result of final appeal in 1893. However, for one and illness of the mind of his own that were rolled up in this case, and lost fame, I died as disappointment in 1894.
