Brief career history

Bradford birth of Yorkshire. I show musical talent from boyhood, and the future is expected much of and enters the national music training school (the National Training School for Music) which became the base of royal College of Music as a research worker. By the way, the principal of the school was Arthur Sullivan [1].

I take office as a professor at piano course of royal College of Music from 1884 through 1931 [1]. A well-known disciple has John Ireland and Arthur Benjamin and others.

The activity as the composer is short from 1889 through 1905. There were two symphonies in the main work, and [the first] was given the first public performance of in Crystal Palace in 1889, and it was staged afterwards by association of royal Phil harmonic. It is informed that both performances were popular, and the daily telegraph gives the evaluation with "a masterpiece". It is not open program music, but the first movement is influenced by the impression of the visit of the person of composition to Norway. On the other hand, as for [the symphony second] given the first public performance of by Leeds music festival in 1892, a title is attached to each movement (the first movement: sunset (At Sunset), the second movement: at night (Night), the third movement: party (Fairy Revels) of the fairy, the fourth movement: in morning (Morning)). The contralto and the scena [triumphant return of Arses Thijs] for orchestral musics were composed for Clare bat.

I did not become clear whether it was one of more catch figures, and, after time of the substantial fictionization of 7 years, a main work was not given afterwards at an opportunity of the presentation of the work either [2]. The work is finally rediscovered in late years and is recorded [3].
