The Japanese linden genus (Japanese linden ぞく, a scientific name: Tilia, Japanese name kanji notation: the Japanese linden genus, the Japanese linden genus) one of the genus of the basswood family [²] [³].

I include it in mallow family with the new APG plant classification system [⁴].

Characteristic

Fallen leaves Takagi. The leaf grows each other, and the tip of a leaf is sharp thin, and the base is warped, and there are sharp saw teeth for a relationship. A leaf and the stem often have star-formed hair. The stipule becomes the quality of film and falls early. There is the leafstalk that a leaf and the boundary of the blade are clear. I lengthen a cyme from the flank of the hypopodium and soak a flower. It is a propeller, and a total bract helps seed dispersion to leave the branch with the total bract which I attached when the total bract of the narrow long oval is outstanding, and lower than central part of the total bract attach it with an axis of the inflorescence, and 果序 drops in 果期 [³].

Floral art is two different characters. Five sepal. Five petals. A lot of stamens make the detached room life that there is. With the temporary stamen of five normal inside of a petal [³]. There are five ovaries; in each with two seed bud [⁵]. Growth, the capital are shallow, and the style does 5 裂 thin. Or the fruit becomes the elliptic nut spherically, and 1-2 seeds enter inside without making a cleavage [³].

Distribution

I am distributed over the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere, and approximately 30 kinds are known [³], and several kinds are distributed over Japan.

• Japanese linden Tilia japonica (Miq.) Simonk. - A Japanese endemic species. I am distributed over Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu and grow it in the mountainous district [³].
  • I grow it in the mountainous district of シコクシナノキ (ケナシシナノキ) Tilia japonica (Miq.) Simonk. var. leiocarpa Nakai -4 countries [³].
• ヘラノキ Tilia kiusiana Makino et Shiras. - I am distributed over Kii peninsula, Chugoku district, Shikoku, Kyushu of Honshu and grow it in the mountainous district [³].
• I am chosen by endangered IA (CR) of man Shu linden tree Tilia mandshurica Rupr. et Maxim. var. mandshurica - Ministry of the Environment. In Japan, I am distributed over Okayama, Hiroshima, Yamaguchi and rarely grow it in the coolness place such as the valleys of highlands [⁷]. Any place other than Japan, I am distributed over Korean Peninsula, Mainland China (the northern part, the northeastern part) [³].
  • Field horsetail linden tree Tilia mandshurica Rupr. et Maxim. var. rufovillosa (Hatus.) Kitam. - I am chosen by endangered IB (EN) of Ministry of the Environment. In Japan, I rarely grow it around Mount Kuju of Oita [⁸]. I grow it in the Korean Peninsula any place other than Japan [³].

• Ohba linden tree Tilia maximowicziana Shiras. - I am distributed over Hokkaido, Tohoku district, Hokuriku district, North Kanto region of Honshu and grow it in the mountainous district [³].
  • モイワボダイジュ Tilia maximowicziana Shiras. var. yesoana (Nakai) Tatew. - I am distributed over Hokkaido, the Tohoku district of Honshu and grow it in the mountainous district. By the way, I am seen in Honshu North Chuubu region [³].
• Linden tree Tilia miqueliana Maxim. - It is originally from China, and I am planted well in Japan by the shrines and temples [³].

Origin of the scientific name

Tilia of the generic name is a Latin old name for the linden tree. An involucre leaf pterygoid as for the etymology by ptilon "wing" from an axis of the inflorescence and a state [¹⁰] attaching.
