Mercedes-Benz, 300SL (Mercedes-Benz 300SL) is the sportscar which German car manufacturer Daimler-Benz (existing Daimler) performed development and production of. I act as a high-quality sportscar of the company, the first model of the SL class.

2 sheeter coupes characterized by a gal wing door and the world's first gasoline direct-injection engine. I was changed to the roadster of the opening after 1957.

Summary

There was not the plan that marketed 300SL, but import dealer of New York, max Hoffman (Max Hoffman) expected the demand in the American market and persuaded Daimler-Benz AG with 1,000 firm orders [1]. The announcement of W198 which became "the racing car for public road" was performed by New York international auto show of February, 1954 [2]. In addition, 190SL (R121) which should be called the cheap edition was announced at the same time.

The first coupe model having a gal wing door became the popular car model in spite of large amount of 6,820 dollars. The coupe model became the production end in May, 1957 and shifted to a roadster model afterward. The output is coupe 1,400, roadster 1,858. 190SL released in 4,000 dollars or less gained the success that was commercial than 300SL, and the output reached 25,881. The production of 300SL and 190SL was finished in form to be replaced with 230SL in 1963.

300SL prototype (W194)

Reproduction

In 1996, two customized cars which I poured a body of 300SL over on the engine made in AMG and the latest chassis were produced by a hand of Mercedes, and an outside magazine scooped all the others with this existence (car graphic delivers it in Japan).
