Thunder and lightning pond (March, 2012)

An event to pray for rain that the leg fold rain request (a shin cage prays for rain) reaches Tsurugashima-shi, Saitama. A product parades around a huge snake body and prays for the rain by leading it to the thunder and lightning pond (かんだちがいけ). It was performed once in the year of the drought, but the residential area of the neighborhood is on the verge of the stoppage by becoming it and the decrease of the full-time farmer and plans the preservation succession in what I perform once in four years after (1976) in 1976. Event summary

The snake body made using bamboo and straw becomes 36m in length, 3t in weight under the pretense of a dragon snake (is Riyu); is huge. I perform a prayer in the gray mustache Shinto shrine which was the local deity of the leg fold village once and I parade around a trip of approximately 2km via Zennouji for the middle and reach the thunder and lightning pond of 5 in a leg occasion. After I was led to the pond with the sacred water of the Itakura thunder and lightning Shinto shrine, I carry it on my shoulder, and the dragon snake is dismantled by a hand, and it is said that good luck visits it if I take part to go.

Tradition

The large snake which controlled thunder and rain lived in the thunder and lightning pond, and it was said that it rained by all means if I prayed to thunder and lightning company of the bank once. However, because the pond became small by newly reclaiming a rice field of the Kanei era year, and a large snake has moved to Joshu Itakura (Itakura-machi, Ora-gun, Gunma); afterward of praying for rain became ineffective. Therefore after doing rain prayer in Itakura thunder and lightning Shinto shrine, and taking the water of the pond over there to go, it is said that the sky is clouded in a moment, and it rained before long.
