Sulfa drug
The generic name of the synthetic antibiotics, chemotherapeutic drug which has sulfonamide (-S(=O)2-NR2) part with the sulfa drug (burn the sulfa British: sulfonamides). Because it is not of creature origin, I am not called the antibiotic.
The sulfa drug resembles paraaminobenzoic acid (PABA) which is a substrate of the ジヒドロプテロイン acid synthetase () in folic acid biosynthesis system structurally and inhibits ジヒドロプテロイン acid composition as a competition inhibitor. I let the supply in the cell of the tetrahydrofolate which is a folic acid metabolism thing be short conclusively and I inhibit DNA composition and the RNA composition of the pathogenic microbe and in this way act bacteriostatically by, as a result, stopping a pudding and de novo synthesis of thymidine. I show an effect to not only bacteria but also a fungus and the protozoan, but the sulfa drug acts only on a pathogen selectively because the Homo sapiens lacks in folate biosynthesis system.
ジヒドロプテロイン acid synthetase causes variation, and resistant bacteria appear by PABA affinity changing. When bacteria get tolerance for one kind of sulfa drug, I come to show tolerance for other sulfa drugs, and a cross-tolerance means this. Resistant bacteria being easy to appear when I use it alone, the sulfa drug is often used together with a folic acid activation inhibitor (trimethoprim) again because I can expect synergy.
The action of the sulfa drug decreases by the combination with the procaine to produce PABA when the procaine is dismantled. During a drama of movie "private Ryan", the white powder which I sprinkled on the wound of the soldier who got injured is this.

Process of the development
In 1935, German Gerhard ドーマク found that Prontosil of the dye was able antimalarial. In addition, I gave Prontosil and saved a life when one's daughter had sepsis.
It was recognized that the sulfone loop which lasted of the Prontosil was able antibacterial, and a sulfa drug was developed in sequence afterwards. ドーマク won a Nobel Medicine Prize by development of the Prontosil later.
