A baseball team of the Major League baseball (following, MLB) that spell (English that バンビーノ is slow: Curse of the Bambino) of バンビーノ is a professional baseball league of the United States of America, the jinx concerning Boston Red Sox.

Boston Red Sox was the strong team which won the championship at the first (the World Series of 1903) of the World Series that was a king jump-off of MLB, but went away from the seat of the world champion for 86 years before reaching it in 2004 after 1918. When it is the thing by the spell of Babe Ruth, also known as バンビーノ of the main star player that this was released by a trade in 1918, I do the spell of バンビーノ. There is the person taking a spell seriously, but is usually treated as shucking and jiving and irony [1].

Summary

It is the jinx to be "the spell" of the player that it was released by a trade by a past that Boston Red Sox went away from the seat of the world champion who is MLB king for 86 years. I am often treated as a kind of the badinage between the New York Yankees which are a rival baseball team. This shout came to be hung by the Red Sox round performed in Yankee Stadium since a fan of Yankees was a shout of "1918!" in the case of game with Red Sox, and ridicule [2] did Red Sox in September, 1990, and the fan of Yankees raised "1918!" or "a spell of バンビーノ" and a photograph of written signboard and Ruth in Red Sox round at the home, and wore "1918!" and a written T-shirt, and did it, and was hot [3]; [4].

I faced Yankees in the American League Championship Series of 2004 and I finished the third game and Red Sox was 0 wins three defeats, but I came from behind afterwards and faced St. Louis Cardinals in league championship, the World Series in 2004 to follow more and carried out championship [5]. This spell had already become a part of the Boston culture, and the mark of "reverse curve" (Reverse Curve) of the long shot feh low Bridge to appear in the strike low street to be well congested was renewed with "reverse the cars" (Reverse the Curse, will of "decipher a spell") [6] and was kept intact until I won the championship in 2004. After World Series most end of the war victory of 2004, the mark was changed to "cars リバースド" (Curse Reversed, will of "the spell was deciphered") [6].

Background

Harry フレイジー traded Babe Ruth in Yankees.

Babe Ruth who would be described as "God of the baseball" later was known for the nickname of "バンビーノ" and pitched in the World Series in 1916 and 1918 as a pitcher during Boston Red Sox being on the register roll (I play the World Series of 1915 as a pinch hitter). Red Sox at the time was the skilled player who shined to 5 degrees world champion in the World Series of 1903 that was the first World Series in the first on the list [7]. In contrast, in the New York Yankees where Ruth would be traded, the same period did not have the thing that I participated in to the World Series at all.

However, the results including [8] to lose the seat of the world champion though Red Sox conquered American League four times from 1946 through 1968 will trace the drop line since Babe Ruth is traded in an off-season of 1919 by Yankees. On the other hand, I hit 39 times of advances, and 26 times carried out championship for the World Series in 84 years after the trade, and Yankees which got Ruth grew up in one of the teams where I put success in most in North American professional sportsdom in contrast with Red Sox [9]. This championship number of times becomes the numerical value of approximately 2 times of the baseball team of other Major League baseball. From such a reason, the jinx called "a spell of バンビーノ" that the slump of Boston Red Sox was caused by a spell of バンビーノ (Babe Ruth) traded by the New York Yankees was born later. This jinx of rival relations of Yankees and Red Sox big; was symbolized.

Release of Ruth

About release of Ruth, it is said that work production of Harry フレイジー which was a theatrical producer is concerned with another view in owners of Red Sox at the time of 1918. It is said that フレイジー allotted the fund which I won by the trade of Ruth and others for a production fund of "No, No, Nanette" of the Broadway musical work [10]. フレイジー affected many productions with a trade of Ruth almost simultaneously, and the premiere of "No, No, Nanette" was two years later after フレイジー sold Red Sox from a trade five years later. Ed Barrow who was Director at Red Sox resigned in 1921 and turned into general manager of Yankees, and players of other Red Sox were traded again by Yankees, too [11].

When "No, No, Nanette" were made from "My Lady Friends" of the straight play that began in Broadway in December, 1919, I wrote down Lee モンヴィル in "The Big Bam: The Life and Times of Babe Ruth" [12]. Real "My Lady Friends" was served by a trade of Ruth [13]. フレイジー is friendly with owners of Yankees, and モンヴィル, plural researchers including ショーンジー tell that a fund with many trades and a fen way park as a security was used for theatrical activities of フレイジー again [12].

Origin of the jinx

It is January 3, 1920 that Ruth was traded by Yankees, and it was after this trade that results of Red Sox came to follow a drop line, but the word "spell of バンビーノ" sails it up until the World Series in 1918 [14]. It was "The Curse of the Bambino" which Dan ショーンジー wrote in 1990 that the word this "spell of バンビーノ" was a chance to be used widely. This title came to be taken up as a keyword of Red Sox afterwards by the plural media, and this book came to be used for the class of the English sentence of some high schools of New England again [8]; [15].

Contents of the spell

That to have begun to be said to be "a spell" in 1986, but was cursed from it past [8].

  • I participated in the World Series of 1946 for the first time after a trade of Ruth and developed St. Louis Cardinals and a close battle [16]. In the bottom of the eighth inning that I greeted with the seventh game carried out in athletes park of St. Louis, three to three, Cardinals put Eno Slaughter to the first base runner, but Harry Walker who stood in the turn at bat here tried a hit and run, and it was a two-base hit by the hit that had a short it to the left middle. Slaughter ran by instructions of the supervision at the third base and I reached home plate before the return to the home base by shortstop Johnny ペスキー and defeated Red Sox [17]. ペスキー is considered to have hesitated in a throw and, as a result, led to the safe return of Slaughter, but ペスキー denies a hesitation. I do not become clear except that the part of the shadow had place, Slaughter that ペスキー is bright with the picture. Star player Ted Williams of Red Sox was an opportunity of the oneself only World Series, but was not able to contribute because of an injury.
  • In 1948, American League championship decision play-off in 1948 that was [19], a league only play-off was performed for Cleveland Indians and league championship [18] and was defeated [20].
  • A pennant remained to win the championship, and, in 1949, Red Sox did one win during two games and became [21]. However, I faced Yankees with these two games and was defeated [22], and after that, in Yankees which advanced to the World Series, it was in this way continuation championship from the World Series of 1949 to the World Series in 1953 for five years.
  • In 1967, a league won the championship and returned a disgrace of the last year [23]. I faced Cardinals as well as 1946 and became complicated in the World Series of 1967 until the seventh game. It was predominant over gym Ron Bogue that good pitcher Bob Gibson of Cardinals was an ace of Red Sox, and Red Sox was defeated with seven to two. Gibson takes a home run away from Ron Bogue in this game [24].
  • In 1972, I was robbed of D vision title by Detroit Tigers with 0.5 games difference [25]. A strike was carried out for 13 days, and some teams decreased nine games [26]. It became the rainout by one game, and there was less the transfer, too. When it became remainder two games, Lewis アパリシオ came into the third base at the last minute, but was defeated with four to one [27].
  • In 1975, Red Sox won with a pennant and faced the Cincinnati Reds called the Big Red machine in the World Series of 1975. I won by a good-bye game by catcher Carlton Fisk in the sixth game and advanced to the seventh game. Red Sox led you with three to 0, but Reds gave back three points in the top of the fifth inning and became the tie score. Reds was a one-base hit of Joe Morgan, and, in the top of the ninth inning, Ken Griffey senior got a score, and Red Sox was defeated. I am performed the World Series with one of the best games in history.
  • On July 18, 1978, I beat Yankees by 14 games difference in AL East [28]. However, condition came out to Yankees, and, in Yankees which won 4 straight victories in a fen way park, it was finally the first place with Red Sox on September 10, and this came to be called "Boston holocaust" from a fan of Red Sox [29]. Six days later, Yankees led 3.5 games from Red Sox, but Red Sox performed 12 wins by next 14 games, and a play-off was performed in a fen way park on October 2. Shortstop Bucky Dent of Yankees with many single hits hit a three-run homer home run, and I acted on the left Green Monster and jumped out outside a baseball stadium, and Yankees became superior with three to two seven times. Yankees finally won with five to four and won and advanced to the World Series of 1978.
  • Red Sox was superior with five to three in the sixth game, top of the tenth inning that I greeted by three wins two defeats of the World Series of 1986. Relief pitcher Calvin silaRudy of Red Sox made two batters an out and should have become World Series championship with another one out. However, Mets gave off tripartite consecutive hits in this scene, and Bob Stanley of Red Sox threw a wild ball more, and first baseman Bill Buckner of Red Sox did a tunnel error, and Ray Knight tied a grounder of Mu key Wilson of Mets to the score last from the second, and it was victory of Mets. Red Sox became superior, but was defeated with five to eight in the seventh game, first half three to 0. Reporter George Bessie of the New York Times writes it down about the defeat of last two games in detail [30]; [31] [32] [33].
  • In the American League Championship Series of 1988 and the American League Championship Series of 1990, Red Sox advanced to the league final and both faced Oakland Athletics and were defeated by 0 wins four defeats. I was defeated by 0 wins three defeats in the American League division series of 1995 in Cleveland Indians, and even the American League division series of 1998 was defeated by one win three defeats in Indians and was defeated by one win one defeat in the American League division series of 1999 in Yankees [34].
  • I faced Yankees by the American League Championship Series of 2003 and brought you until the seventh game. In the top of the eighth inning, Red Sox held superiority with five to two, and the gray D little supervisor let starting pitcher Pedro Martinez take mound consecutively [35]. Yankees counterattacked Martinez who got tired and took one-base hit three-run homer, two-base hit three times [35]. In the bottom of the 11th inning, Aaron Boone hit a game-ending home run from the starting pitcher Tim wake field of the knuckle ball that came up as a relief, and Yankees won the championship [35].

I it until a spell is removed

The fan of Red Sox did various things for many years to decipher a spell of バンビーノ.

  • I put a hat of Red Sox in the top of Mount Everest
  • I bake a hat of Yankees by camping of Yankees
  • For "the purification of the fen way park," I hire exorcism and Father Guido Sarducci (Don Novello)
  • I transfer a road sign of "Reverse Curve" ("there is flexure") according to strike low to "Reverse the Curse" with spray ink
  • I find out the piano which Ruth owned and lose it in the pond nearly the farm home plate farm of Ruth in Massachusetts Sade Barry

In 1994, former pitcher Building Lee of Red Sox dug a corpse of Ruth in documentary "Baseball" by Ken Barnes and brought it in a fen way and talked about what I traded to Yankees that you should apologize formally.

A base on balls that Manny Ramirez defeated on August 31, 2004 is blown off in Row AA of box 95 of seat section 9, and the number of teeth is how many, or there is the opinion that a spell came loose by having compromised in the face of the boy [36]. 16-year-old Lee gay Vin lived in Sade Valley with the farm of Ruth in fans of ラミレス of Red Sox. On the same day, Yankees suffered from a team defeat worst in history of 22 to 0 by a home game with Indians [37]; [38] [39].

When Jimmy Buffett of the musician gave a concert in a fen way park in September, 2004, I performed 除霊式 with opening acts that I made up as of Ruth and the witch doctor.

As for Curt Schilling, a state to hitchhike with paper written as "to Boston" was described in the advertising of the pickup truck of the Ford F series right after I was traded by Red Sox. I tell, it is asked a driver why you go to Boston when I get in a car by this hitchhike and "unties a spell for 86 years" [40]

End of the spell

Red Sox faces Yankees which is a rival of the fate by the American League Championship Series of 2004. Red Sox suffered 19 to eight wide margin defeat in the third game of the home game, and dropped first three consecutively, and "a check" was hung; was in a state [41]; [42].

Fourth game, Red Sox one point greeted the bottom of the ninth inning with four to three of the behind [43]. At first I get to first base with a base on balls of Kevin Miller, and Dave Roberts of the pinch runner steals Red Sox. Furthermore, I hit a timely hit from Mariano Rivera of the closer of Yankees, and third baseman Building mirror caught up with a tie score. 12 times, David Orr Tees that I brought to the extra time hit a two-run homer and gave glory to this game with a victory [43]. Furthermore, Red Sox won straight victories by next three games and achieved league championship of the team which lost 3 consecutive games first in the history of Major League baseball first [44].

In Cardinals which faced 1946 in 1967, Red Sox won 4 straight victories by this card, and the conqueror of the National League of this age shined in the seat of the first world champion in 86 years [5]. The last batter of this game was shortstop at Cardinals, Edgar Renteria of uniform number 3 same as Ruth strangely [5]; [45].

Criticism for the word of "the spell"

When the word "curse" (spell) was based on anti-Semitism, I criticized the Glenn stout [46]. フレイジー was a theatricalist from New York, and, actually, it was Presbyterian Church church, but it was said that it was Jewish. Van Johnson who was the chairperson of American League did not like フレイジー for this purpose, but made fun in those days without mentioning religion saying "New York is over" [46].
