The prefecture where the Malmo Hugh's prefecture (Swedish: Malmöhus län) ever existed of Sweden. It was established in 1669. It merged with クリスチャンスタード prefecture in 1997, and スコーネ prefecture was established newly afterwards.
The name of a prefecture comes from Malmo Hugh's castle () (Swedish: Malmöhus) under the prefecture. The Malmo Hugh's castle was located in Malmo that was prefectural seat. By the way, in スコーネ prefecture after the mergers, Malmo is prefectural seat.
