Summary

I am born in 1887, and Schrodinger who became a researcher of the theoretical physics gives a lecture in トリニティー college of Dublin in 1943. This book is the book which I wrote from the contents of the lecture. Schrodinger did not make a specialty of biology. However, I built a biological new study domain by applying the physical theoretical knowledge that Schrodinger studied in those days and wrote down this book for acquiring unified knowledge.

At first Schrodinger comments that it is established approximately by enormous atoms being related while in a sense being statistical, and showing paramagnetism or Brownian movement with the physical law. In other words, according to the physical viewpoint, various biologic processes as the study must have it of bringing the result that the work of the atom which observation is established from possible enormous atoms in large quantities and is accidental is superabundant. However, as for the law characteristics of the creature, Schrodinger insists on law characteristics of the physics and a fundamentally heterogeneous thing. This is because the atoms which I cannot show exercise by the statistical law in the physics regularly in the inside of the living entity. Schrodinger does the relations of both with a problem after having stated that there are a physical device producing order from disorder and a biological device laying order from order to a device bringing order from such a difference.

It is important to a creature here, and Schrodinger pays attention to a gene comprised of a large number of atoms. The gene consists of around 1,000 atoms and has basically stable structure. There is too few it to be stable, but, as for this number, the gene keeps stability if I see it physically. About this problem, Schrodinger commented, "the gene is a nonperiodic solid". Generally, there is a method to form a method to tie structure of the same type to three directions repeatedly and a cohesion body to gradually enlarge to build a combination body. And, according to the opinion of Schrodinger, the gene adopts latter structure. And it is a great variety of the sequence of the isomeric atom is enabled and, by this structure, can realize it with the atom that they are few. Furthermore, Schrodinger reasons that a chromosome is equivalent to a plan appointing the plan of the developmental process of the creature.

In addition, Schrodinger considers the essence of entropy and the life phenomenon. According to the place that the law of entropy shows, the object reaches the equilibrium after collapse. However, the creature does not become the equilibrium. When Schrodinger is because I assimilate "negentropy" as means for a creature to live consistently from environment, I explain it. In other words, I maintain a standard of the entropy constantly by offsetting entropy to occur by a creature living by negentropy. The law of entropy shows that it is not established in the system left open, and Schrodinger speaks this situation when stability of the another kind consists with the equilibrium.
