V9958
V9958(E-VDP-II) is higher compatible VDP of TMS9918, V9938. Ascii, Yamaha developed it. I was used in MSX2+ and MSXturboR, an arcade game console, the CRT indication control of the pachinko.
Main specifications
- I implement all modes and VDP commands of V9938
- Video memory 128KB (possible expansion RAM64KB enlargement). I can access VRAM from a CPU through VDP. There is a DRAM refresh function and can directly connect DRAM.
- The natural image mode which can display 19,268 colors
- The compression graphic mode of the YJK method using a characteristic (brightness and color) of the NTSC.
- There is the RGB mixed mode, too. (I display brightness information 12,499 colors by making half)
- An indication point of Sprite and independent lateral hardware scroll function
- Function to mask position adjust of the dot unit to 8 dots unit scroll +8 dots and screen edge 8 dots
- Function to automatically classify weight into at the time of VDP access
- The light-pen mouse interface of V9938 deletes it
- Data input and output function with the color bus
- I could handle more interrupts by improvement of the CPU ability in MSXturboR, and the scanning line interrupt derived from V9938 enabled more expression. Although there was MSX which had a high-resolution timer at the same time like FS-A1GT, it was a specification peculiar to hardware and was often used for reproduction of PCM in V9958 of turboR in the interval when it was no longer fast in a standard of MSX because there was not a timer.
