The Otsu hotel (おおつしゅく, おおつじゅく) is Otsu-shi, Shiga now in a post town of Tokaido 53rd (→ fifty-three stages of the Tokaido). The greatest post town in fifty-three stages of the Tokaido.

Laying of the car stone

A stone of the granite called "a car stone" was spread on the way to smoothen the traffic of the cow carriage in the section of former Tokaido which linked Kyoto to Otsu in the Edo era [1]. When the use of the carriage advanced in the Meiji era, the car stone was removed, and the removed car stone was used by stone walls [1].
