Nagano Shinkansen (the Nagano Shinkansen) is the popular name which has been ever used for the section which East Japan Railway Co. (JR East) operates in the Hokuriku Shinkansen (driving systematic name).

Takasaki Station (in the operating system top Tokyo Station) - Nagano Station interval of the Hokuriku Shinkansen was inaugurated to the holding of the Nagano Olympics of February (1997) (1998) on October 1 in 1997 in 1998, but was guided "Nagano line Shinkansen" (the Nagano breath Shinkansen) with "Nagano Shinkansen" later conveniently because I was not connected by this point in time to the Hokuriku district. When I practiced medicine (2015) to Kanazawa Station on March 14 in 2015, the names in the guidance were unified to "the Hokuriku Shinkansen" of the official name, and the name called Nagano Shinkansen became extinct. After that notation called "the Hokuriku Shinkansen" (via Nagano) may be used to state that I go by way of Nagano clearly in the JR East section (the details of the change of the name mention it later).

This article describes a business form until March 13 (2015) as follows in 2015. I refer to "Hokuriku Shinkansen # history" for the detailed process until the Nagano Shinkansen opening of business.

Service form

As of the day before extension of March 13, 2015, "Asama" commuted 27 between Tokyo Station - Nagano Station and was driven as 1 coming and going commuter pass train between Tokyo Station - Karuizawa Station. It became starting from Nagano Station, and I ran extension as special train handling, and I went down it between Karuizawa Station → Nagano Station, and a special train of the suspension was handled, and, among trains departing from and arriving at Karuizawa, as for 551, as for Nagano Station last arrival, 502, in the Karuizawa Station - Nagano Station interval, one (599) was run on on Saturday and a part holiday on the holiday of Saturday, a part on Friday, some holidays.

Zeroth stand (.8 N formation) of E2 origin and E7 system (.12 F formation) was allotted to the vehicle. As for the zeroth stand (.8 N formation) of E2 for Nagano Shinkansen origin, there were the differences such as a color, an emblem, the formation dual number of the obi with the E2 system 0.1000 turn level used with Tohoku, the Joetsu Shinkansen (.10 J formation) and, as for the use, was completely separated.

On October 10, 2013, both companies of West Japan Railway select a train name of the Hokuriku Shinkansen as JR East in reference to the result of the general open call for participants and announce that the type to travel as well as conventional Nagano Shinkansen between Tokyo Station - Nagano Station just does the name to "Asama" [1], and the character called the train of the local train type to run section after Kanazawa extension between Tokyo Station - Nagano Station becomes strong. In addition, there is not periodical setting after Kanazawa extension about the train between Tokyo Station - Karuizawa Station.

Vehicle

The vehicle that it was used the Kanazawa extension opening of business for until just before that

  • - N formation of E2 origin, eight formation. The "Asama" operational end [2] by the formation on March 31, 2017 concerned.

  • By the special train in conjunction with 200 system - Nagano Olympics, the F80 formation that I gave introduces remodeling.
  • - P formation of E4 origin, eight 2-story formation. I use it only by a special train. Only as for the up, it was commercially operated as "Max Asama" between Karuizawa Station - Tokyo Station. A vehicle (incline, P81, P82 formation for 50/60Hz) which could run in it to Nagano Station and a vehicle (P51, the P52 formation that only an incline supports it) which could run in it to Karuizawa Station were allotted.
  • Painting bridal change of dresses watches of the night and ten formation that followed - J formation [note 2] of E2 origin, a mass production car of the 1000th level run in it before becoming it. N formation was common use.
  • 925 form (Doctor Yellow) - S1, S2 formation.
  • E954 form (FASTECH 360S) - S9 formation. A high-speed examination train.

Use situation

According to the railway passenger flow data between the metropolis and districts which Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport investigated about traffic demand in 2000, the passenger volume was 2,940,000 among travelers in the year to each vicinity of Nagano Shinkansen prefecture (only in Nagano) in the year when I moved to other prefectures by rail from Tokyo. Furthermore, the annual passenger volumes from Tokyo metropolitan area (Tokyo + Kanagawa + Saitama +1,000 leaf prefecture) to Nagano were 4,997,000 people.

In addition, there were the most departure from Nagano visitors with 3,343,000 people, and subsequently the starting railroad passenger volume to flow between each capital prefecture along the line was 2,940,000 people of Tokyo, and visitor 3,636,000 people, Tokyo where similarly the destination passenger volume assumed Nagano a destination were 2,674,000.

The passenger flow situation (2000) between each capital prefecture along the line is as follows.

The passenger flow situation (2000) between each Nagano Shinkansen capital prefecture along the line
Departure place \ destination Tokyo metropolitan area * Gunma Nagano The total
Tokyo metropolitan area 0 - 4,997 4,997
Gunma - 0 50 50
Nagano 4,385 192 0 4,577
The total 4,385 192 5,047 -

(a unit: in 1,000 / year)

The railway passenger flow of Tokyo metropolitan area - Nagano includes Chuo Main Line user

Tokaido, the Sanyo Shinkansen passed to the whole line, and high demand was expected, and, as for the Tohoku Shinkansen, it was flat demand for the whole line like the Joetsu Shinkansen which ran side by side in the case of Nagano Shinkansen between Tokyo - Takasaki, and traveled again while high demand was expected between Tokyo - Sendai called Tochigi, Miyagi.

A fare and express fare

The fare calculated it based on a working kilometer. The working kilometer between Tokyo Station - Takasaki Station became same as that of Tohoku Main Line (Tokyo Station - Omiya Station interval), Takasaki Line (Omiya Station - Takasaki Station interval) which ran side by side. Because the working kilometer from Takasaki Station and to the west did not have a route of JR which ran side by side, a true kilometer (real distance by Shinkansen) was used.

The express fare is fixed for individual treatment between each station by a thing on the pretence of "triangle table". On the other hand, the express fare between this each station was calculated based on the working kilometer of the section concerned. Refer to Hokuriku Shinkansen # fare and the melody of the express fare for the express fare corresponding to the working kilometer and the express fare of other specific sections.

"Asama No. 599" (after Kanazawa extension 699) for Nagano at Karuizawa 7:05 a.m. matches an express fare with a fare only for a train of the service only for weekdays; and from Karuizawa Station 1,800 yen (as for the normal rate 3,070 yen), 1,500 yen (2,740 yen) from Sakudaira Station, from Ueda Station 1,000 yen (1,410 yen). The discount width released "the first thing in the morning Asama ticket" which became 29% from 45% from the summer of 2005.

In addition, it was only our Shinkansen that going did not have local train, and the prefectural border by the railroad needed an express fare because a parallel old line was abolished in the neighborhood of prefectural border with Gunma and Nagano. However, there is not the exception that is an express fare-free like Joetsu Line branch line, Hakata South Line.

Business

Facilities in the car

I usually connected a car (E2 system: a 1-6.8 car, E7 system: a 1-10 car) and an extra charge green car (E2 system: the seventh car, E7 system: the eleventh car) with all trains and connected the "GranClass" vehicle (the twelfth car) which was higher-ranking grade by the train using the E7 system.

In addition, Nagano Shinkansen is entirely non-smoking from [note 3] for 2,005 years. Because did not establish the smoking rooms either; in the inside of car was not able to smoke.

Wicket in the car

As a general rule, by each Shinkansen of JR East including Nagano Shinkansen, I do not perform examination of tickets in the car. When a passenger passes the automatic ticket gate of the ride station, I read the data of the reserved seat ticket, and this is because a system to be able to grasp the status every seat on a car by transmitting it to the terminal which a conductor carries is introduced. The conductor compared the taking a seat situation of the passenger with status displayed by a handheld unit and I considered it an authorized passenger if I agreed and passed it, and a passenger limited it to the cases that took seat at the seat which could not be issued, and I called out to you, and a reserved seat ticket confirmed it.

Broadcast in the car

The same original musical piece was used as a chime in all stops from the beginning of opening of business (as for the melody of the chime, same as the Joetsu Shinkansen).

Masayuki Sakai of the Fuji TV former announcer was in charge of the narration.

The chime and the narration of the broadcast of Nagano Shinkansen in the car were succeeded in the equal section after the Kanazawa extension.

Change of the name of "Nagano Shinkansen"

Use name at the time of the partial opening of business between Takasaki - Nagano

I examined the name that was different in JR East that Kiyomi Harayama, a vice-president of service-centered JR East showed recognition [note 4] "unsuitable for route which went to the Hokuriku area another" about using "the Hokuriku Shinkansen" which was an official name more statutory than before opening of business of October 1, 1997 and planned prevention of confusion of the user [3].

On the other hand, in the local government of the Hokuriku district concerned about an impression that it is to Nagano, and construction is canceled while an extension business plan from Nagano by the government and to the north is uncertain opening, it is Takasaki – Movement to request that I used a name of "Hokuriku" even if it was the partial opening of business between Nagano was seen [4].

In such a process, JR East announced that I treated it as follows about the route name and a guidance name at the same time to announce the diamond of Shinkansen "Asama" on July 25, 1997 [5].

  • I use "Nagano Shinkansen" in station yard broadcast and the broadcast in the car.
  • Is a guidance name of "the Nagano line Shinkansen" in Tokyo Station and Ueno Station, station yard notice and the train schedule of the metropolitan area including Omiya Station; indication [note 5] (as a general rule, do not use the name of "the Hokuriku Shinkansen").
  • I merely assume it "the Shinkansen" by Annaka-Haruna Station, Karuizawa Station, Sakudaira Station, Ueda Station, the Nagano Station station yard notice.

It determined the name use policy mentioned above in JR East, but, as a result, it was said that a guidance notice was different at the home of an up line and the down line at the metropolitan area station, and a name of "Nagano Shinkansen" was used for Tokyo Station by the yard notice of the Tokaido Shinkansen home of Central Japan Railway which lived together more from the day of the opening of business, and the divided part was seen.

Meanwhile, the name of "Nagano Shinkansen" gradually showed fixation partly because a name of "Nagano Shinkansen" used by automatic broadcast of the station yard and the Shinkansen inside of car after the opening of business basically was used in the mass media, and "JR timetable" of Transportation News Co., Ltd. (弘済出版社) was replaced from "the Nagano line Shinkansen" by notation of "Nagano Shinkansen" with JTB publishing (the Japan Travel Bureau publishing station) "JTB timetable" each from [6] in June, 1998. In addition, the guidance notice of "the Nagano line Shinkansen" seen at some metropolitan area stations gradually disappeared [note 6], and "Nagano Shinkansen" came to be used including a timetable and a guidance notice totally [note 7].

Takasaki Station Shinkansen platform (July 21, 2007 photography) where "Nagano line Shinkansen" notation was left. I am considered to be "the Hokuriku Shinkansen" (via Nagano) now.

Review of the name for the extension opening of business from Nagano and to the north

I unified the names of all sections by the laws and ordinances street "Hokuriku Shinkansen" when the Hokuriku Shinkansen extended to Kanazawa at the end of 2014 and practiced medicine or it followed it in JR East jurisdiction and wrote names called "Nagano" jointly, and it was a discussion for a long time whether you added a popular name.

I requested it [7], and, in the business groups of Nagano, the Governor Jin Murai of Nagano stated JR East, "I want to make an effort hard to be able to understand a feeling of Nagano" at a press conference to do it for a name "the Nagano Hokuriku Shinkansen" after the whole line opening to traffic as "the name Nagano Shinkansen spread among the users, and a user is confused if I changed the name" and showed will for maintenance of "Nagano" [8].

The Governor Morikazu Abe who became the next Nagano governor received the intention of the business group of the prefecture on February 18, 2013 and clarified the thought that I demanded to leave "Nagano" for a name in future for each Hokuriku prefecture and JR company some other time [9].

One, Governor Ryuichi Ishii of Toyama, the following day; stated, "is not "the Hokuriku Shinkansen" and a thing of the character to be written definitely, and to change so easy in the laws and ordinances" (Law for Natl. Shinkansen Network), and supported a name of the Hokuriku Shinkansen of the laws and ordinances street at the press conference on the 19th. Furthermore, I state even if "I think that it is basic because person concerned and most of three prefectures of Hokuriku made along the line efforts together for 40 several years" [10].

Similarly, Governor Masanori Tanimoto of Ishikawa, the following day; objected to leaving a name of Nagano at the press conference on the 20th saying, "rather gave a passenger misunderstanding because Kanazawa became the terminal for the time being when was dignified, and did not give it" with "the Hokuriku Shinkansen". I confirm the past process saying "JR named it it conveniently because I maintain Nagano Shinkansen for Olympics ahead of schedule and am not connected to Hokuriku" [11].

In addition, the Akira Miyama president (association of Hokuriku economy society's vice-chairperson) of Kanazawa Chamber of Commerce said, "I used the vested rights so far for several years, and a feeling of the no more discussion is natural by the Hokuriku Shinkansen for us" (in Nagano) on March 1 in the next month and expressed objection in a request to put two characters of "Nagano" in a name of the Hokuriku Shinkansen. To what the Hokuriku Shinkansen is consistent as for this from the point of plan, and "make the popular name which was to avoid the false ride during the part opening of business period to Nagano though is the official name by laws and ordinances vested rights", and is done express concern [12].

About this opposition, the official name expresses President Tetsuro Tomita of East Japan Railway Co. at the press conference on March 5 after having recognized a thing called the Hokuriku Shinkansen when I touch compromise in the request of Nagano based on Toyama, Hokuriku of Ishikawa having had been used for the front as an opinion and a nickname proposing how or have a hard time [13].

In addition, there is not authority to decide the name of all Tokyo - Kanazawa sections only in JR East because business of the Hokuriku Shinkansen is divided into JR East and West Japan Railway about this problem after Joetsu Myoko Station of Niigata. There is not the official opinion about a name, and, from one West Japan Railway, display it only with the Hokuriku Shinkansen with the public information document of the company by March, 2013 [14]; [15].

On October 2, 2013, I assumed the route name "the Hokuriku Shinkansen" according to laws and ordinances from JR East, and it was found that I specified it to the trace with "" (via Nagano) [16]. Because such a constant consideration was got, Nagano withdrew a request, too, and the issue of name of the Hokuriku Shinkansen was settled.
