Warship career

The guard fish was started work of as a fleet type submarine in electric boat company of Connecticut Groton on January 20, 1942. In May of the year, the conduct bottom of the Thomas Breton Clark ring (English version) major (Annapolis 1927 tuple) was placed on duty by the Edward J mer cart wife in the launching, New London navy submarine base. I left New London on June 28, and the guard fish which finished a stroke of a rowing crew in New London left for Pearl Harbor passing through Panama Canal. I arrived at Pearl Harbor on July 25.

It is first and it for second patrol from August, 1942 to November

On August 6, the guard fish left for the Japanese sea near the shore by the first patrol. When the guard fish was from the south to the north in the east side of Honshu, I patrolled and discovered "8,000 tons grade Japanese Navy special duty warship" at 38°26'N 145°39'E / 38.433 degrees N 145.650 degrees E / 38.433, a point of 145.650 on the morning of August 19, and I fired three torpedoes, but the guard fish left in this sea area because the result was not good and the figure of the destroyer was seen before long and counterattacked it [9]. I attacked and sank a trawler in an evening on August 22 [5]. According to the place where a ship in way/ones/ heard neighborhood, the sound of the cannonball of 10 and a fire, the sound of the explosion passed away from 40°09'N 142°31'E / 40.150 degrees N 142.517 degrees E / 40.150, the southeastern point of 142.517 in hearing, 42 minutes [10]. The guard fish goes south and finds a take. I discovered the transportation funamori sea-maru (North Japan steamship, 3,114 tons) off 38°12'N 141°30'E / 38.200 degrees N 141.500 degrees E / 38.200, Kinkasan Lighthouse of 141.500 on the afternoon of August 24 and I fired three torpedoes, and two let you hit it and attacked and sank it [11]. The guard fish went north again, and was 40°10'N 142°10'E / 40.167 degrees N 142.167 degrees E / 40.167, a point of 142.167 [12] [13] on morning of August 25, the following day, and fired two torpedoes for 輸送船帝仙丸 (former Germany ship Ursula re-bears / Mitsubishi steamship trust, 5,050 tons), but this torpedo was evaded [14]; [15]. Was 41°49'N 143°04'E / 41.817 degrees N 143.067 degrees E / 41.817, a point of Cape Erimo southeast 13 nautical miles of 143.067 at 7:45, and discovered 輸送船帝久丸 (former Denmark ship Gustav Diederickson [16]/ empire ship trust, 2,332 tons) on the morning of September 2, and fired three torpedoes, and two let hit it, and fired four torpedoes more, but; was not necessary, and the hull was divided, and 帝久丸 sank [17]; [18]. Three carriers and one 800 tons grade discovered what a tanker was, and the guard fish which I reached off 40°28'N 141°41'E / 40.467 degrees N 141.683 degrees E / 40.467, Yagi of 141.683 on September 4 did not hit a figure of an island though by torpedo one fired two in total for the carrier of at first top two [19]. Five hours later, I let one torpedo is launched, and it hit it for a top carrier and fire two torpedoes for the aim to continue [20]. Was a series of attacks, and attacked and sank it, and, among left carriers, the ちた circle (Tochigi steamship, 2,276 tons) escaped in Gulf of Kuji, and anchored, but was done the falling of a thunderbolt soon, and reached the bottom in Tennyuu circle (Sugaya steamship 3,738 tons) with two carriers, meetings light circle (a meeting positive steamship 5,253 tons) [21]; [22]. The war vessel of the large Minato guard prefecture carried out a depth bomb attack towards the spot [23], but the guard fish successfully ran. On September 15, the guard fish finishes a 40-day action; and is 帰投 in the Midway Island. A series of attacks were evaluated, and a silver star was granted to Herman J co-slur captain (Annapolis 1934 tuple) [24] [explanatory note 1] navy cross chapter to the Clark ring captain each [25].

On September 30, the guard fish left for the East China Sea by the second patrol. The guard fish navigating 27°32'N 127°24'E / 27.533 degrees N 127.400 degrees E / 27.533, the Kumejima sea near the shore of 127.400 in the morning on October 19 discovered the carrier Fushimi-maru [explanatory note 2] and was evaluated when I let I fired six torpedoes, and at least one hit it and damaged it [26]. I continued chasing it as surfacing, but I was discovered in a patrol aircraft before long and performed crash dive. Received a near hit just after that, but shook it off without receiving the great damage [27]; [28]. On October 21 two days later, the guard fish discovers the 279th fleet consisting of seven carriers at 27°25'N 123°05'E / 27.417 degrees N 123.083 degrees E / 27.417, a point of 123.083, and fire four torpedoes for 6,700 tons of top carriers, and two hit an ear circle (Nissan steamship, 6,363 tons) on a carrier day; and on a day an ear circle sinking [29] [30]. I fired three torpedoes for 8,700 tons grade tanker by an attack to continue, and the scene which seemed to take down a lifeboat was seen approximately two minutes later [29]. Sinking was authorized after I was revised by 4,000 tons grade carrier [31], but, as for the 8,700 tons grade tanker, there were not the applicable military gains later [30]. I took a picture of Torishima on November 2 [32] and passed the south side of the South-West Islands. On November 28, the guard fish finishes a 59-day action; and is 帰投 in Pearl Harbor. By the prominent military gains in the patrol duty for 2 degrees, the guard fish was presented with distinguished services corps chapter.

I it for third, fourth, the fifth patrol from December, 1942 to August, 1943

Destroyer air flapped up by wings (1920)

December 20 [33], the guard fish left for the Truk Islands area by the third patrol. I pass through Wake Island, タオンギ atoll, the Eniwetok sea near the shore and arrive at the truck north sea area on January 1, 1943 and will patrol during one week [34]. However, the military gains were not given and decided to move 哨区 to the New Ireland island north sea area from January 10 [35]. On the night of January 12, the guard fish was 02°51'S 149°43'E / 2.850 degrees S 149.717 degrees E / -2.850, the New Ireland island sea near the shore of 149.717, and I detected an aim, and I was estimated by a radar when I approached it with surfacing and confirmed it when it was "a first spring type destroyer" [36]. When a date is going to be January 13, I fire three torpedoes, and the second torpedo hits it, and the aim explodes [36]. I attacked and sank a first vedette boat by this attack. I move to the patrol in the New Ireland island south sea area from January 20 [37]. The guard fish which patrolled in a street to Rabaul on the early morning of January 22 discovers 8,000 tons grade carrier and the submarine chaser of the guards at 03°55'S 152°07'E / 3.917 degrees S 152.117 degrees E / -3.917, a point of 152.117 [38]. One torpedo fired for a submarine chaser came off, but the one hit it among three torpedoes fired for a carrier, and steam and smoke went up from an aim highly [39]. These military gains became after the war and were revised downward with "4,000 tons grade carrier one sinking" [31]; [explanatory note 3]. I discover the large carrier which was guarded at 03°42'S 15°55'E / 3.700 degrees S 15.917 degrees E / -3.700, a point of 15.917 on early morning of January 23, the following day by two small war vessels, but it is in a place, the evening when I surface and continued searching it and discovers "a morning tide type destroyer" at 02°47'S 150°38'E / 2.783 degrees S 150.633 degrees E / -2.783, a point of 150.633 and fires three torpedoes without being able to take the attack position [40] [41]. The torpedo went to the destroyer air flapped up by wings and was exchanged to the second, but the third torpedo hit it and attacked and sank an air flapped up by wings [42]. I discovered a transportation fleet with Gulf of Simpson (English version) mouth on January 28, but I was prevented, and the attack did not become the escort ship [43]. After the guard fish patrolled for a short term in the ウェワク area, I went to the south via the ヴィティアス straits (English version) [44]. On February 15, the guard fish finished a 56-day action and did 帰投 in Brisbane.

On March 9, the guard fish left for the Bismarck Islands area by the fourth patrol. Visiting New Ireland island and the New Britain island sea near the shore, I patrol in a course considered that there is much Japanese vessels. I discovered a hospital ship and a destroyer, a submarine [45], but did not give military gains by this patrol after all. I witness the hospital ship North and South America-maru (Osaka merchant ship, 6,070 tons) at 02°30'S 149°41'E / 2.500 degrees S 149.683 degrees E / -2.500, a point of 149.683 on April 18 [46]. On April 30, the guard fish finishes a 52-day action; and is 帰投 in Brisbane. The captain took place of Nobel G word major (Annapolis 1935 tuple).

On May 25, the guard fish left for the Bismarck Islands area by the fifth patrol. I traced approximately similar course and witnessed the figure of the Japan submarine which I described the Japanese flag in at 05°26'S 152°19'E / 5.433 degrees S 152.317 degrees E / -5.433, a point of 152.317 on June 1, but was over last time because I was in the point that 14,000 yards (approximately 13 kilos) left as I saw it [47]. On the early morning of June 13, the guard fish detects an aim by a radar in 03°14'S 151°31'E / 3.233 degrees S 151.517 degrees E / -3.233, New Britain island northwest sea area of 151.517 [48]. The aim arranged two escort ships and went to the south [49]. I fire four torpedoes near the early morning, and it is judged to have hit the 7,000 tons grade carrier that one of them is a sign [49]. When it went back up to a periscope depth and observed it, the aim let heavy oil begin to flow by a torpedo hit [49]. Carrier Suzuya round (North Japan steamship, 901 tons) discovery [51] that the afternoon began after having let a plane and sampan go past, and was regarded as 4,000 tons grade carrier" at 03°07'S 151°24'E / 3.117 degrees S 151.400 degrees E / -3.117, 151.400 [50] or 03°00'S 151°18'E / 3.000 degrees S 151.300 degrees E / -3.000, a point of 151.300. I fired two torpedoes and the second torpedo hit it and attacked and sank Suzuya circle [51]. On the early morning of June 19, I discover a transportation fleet in the guard fish はの Admiralty Islands sea near the shore [52]. However, such as receiving the depth bomb attack of the 22nd submarine chaser before setting an attack, and a sonar being destroyed, and a volt relaxing; was injured, but continued patrolling after repair [53]; [54]. On July 8, the guard fish turns a course to Brisbane and starts the navigation and calls at a port of the ツラギ Island on July 14 [55]. On August 2, the guard fish finished a 70-day action and did 帰投 in Brisbane.

I it for sixth, the seventh patrol from August, 1943 to February, 1944

On August 24, the guard fish left for the Bismarck Islands area by the sixth patrol. I call at a port of the ツラギ Island on September 21 [56] and get a detail contacting the military unit which I unloaded in Bougainville during until September 28 [57]. After the guard fish receiving the information about the transportation fleet from Pete (USS Peto, SS-265) on the night of October 7, and searching it, I discover the transportation fleet consisting of four large size carriers and two escort ships on early morning of October 8, the following day [58]. The guard fish fires six torpedoes at 00°25'S 146°22'E / 0.417 degrees S 146.367 degrees E / -0.417, a point of 146.367 and I beat, and two hit army ship State of California circle (福洋汽船, 5,460 tons) and attack and sink this [59]. I hang it at 01°06'N 145°55'E / 1.100 degrees N 145.917 degrees E / 1.100, the point of 145.917 and run after 4,800 tons grade carrier and turn it, and three torpedoes which I fired came all because of the attack on October 9, but one hits it among the torpedoes which they fired by an attack on October 10, and, from afternoon of October 9, the following day through the early morning of October 10, it is judged 00°10'N 147°19'E / 0.167 degrees N 147.317 degrees E / 0.167, 147.317 to have sunk the aim [60]. I discovered two large carriers and escort ships at 03°44'S 151°28'E / 3.733 degrees S 151.467 degrees E / -3.733, a point of 151.467 on October 13 and I fired four torpedoes, but was made to avoid a depth bomb dropped to depth of 375 feet (approximately 114 meters) without hitting it [61]. Turned to the course in Brisbane [62] and got the protection duty of the bomber which participated in Rabaul air raid for two days afterwards. Let the guard fish called at a port of the ツラギ Island on October 19, and an exploration corps of the American Marine Corps board it, and let a military unit strike the Gulf of Empress Augusta of Bougainville on October 28 [63]; [64]. This duty not a little contributed to the landing to Bougainville Taro kina of the Allied Forces performed on November 1. On November 3, the guard fish finished a 70-day action and did 帰投 in Brisbane.

Was collided at 26°45'S 154°30'E / 26.750 degrees S 154.500 degrees E / -26.750, a point of 154.500 by oil barge YO-20 of the U.S. Army, and, on December 3 of the middle when waited for the next patrol in Brisbane, the guard fish was due to the rear of the starboard warship body by the damage as it was possible for a slit [65]; [66] [67].

Destroyer sea breeze (1937)

On December 27, the guard fish left for the Truk Islands area by the seventh patrol. I dispose of the boat of the Japanese military abandoned at 01°41'N 147°12'E / 1.683 degrees N 147.200 degrees E / 1.683, a point of 147.200 on January 11, 1944 by machine-gun mopping-up [68]. On the afternoon of January 14, the guard fish discovers two destroyers in Palauan east sea area [69]. It was in ripples and the beginning when this destroyer went to the meeting point from Rabaul to meet three specially installed transport (refueling), Kokuyo-maru (Kokuyo steamship 10,026 tons), Nippon-Maru (Yamashita steamship 9,971 tons) and 健洋丸 (Kokuyo steamship, 10,024 tons) [70], and, as for the guard fish, Aruba core (USS Albacore, SS-218) which was in the neighboring villages witnessed the scene which attacked and sank ripples [71]. (USS Scamp, SS-277) already attacked and sank Nippon-Maru at 05°02'N 140°50'E / 5.033 degrees N 140.833 degrees E / 5.033, a point of 140.833, and fleet in itself received destroyer island wind and the control of the early wave that took a bodyguard from the Palauan sea near the shore, too [72]. I heard the sound of the depth bomb attack two hours later after discovering a destroyer and was able to see the black smoke which would rise from Nippon-Maru [71]. Near the evening, finally discovered a fleet at 05°23'N 141°32'E / 5.383 degrees N 141.533 degrees E / 5.383, a point of 141.533, and fired six torpedoes, and two let hit it in 健洋丸, and attacked and sank it [73]; [74]. I move to the Truk Islands south afterwards after having supplied it in ツラギ island via the Manu's island sea near the shore on January 27 [75]. Discovered the 3113th fleet entering port near 07°10'N 151°43'E / 7.167 degrees N 151.717 degrees E / 7.167, truck south channel of 151.717 on February 1, and fired four torpedoes, and one let hit it for the destroyer sea breeze of the guards, and attacked and sank this [76]; [77]. On February 18, the guard fish finishes a 54-day action; and is 帰投 in Pearl Harbor. I was performed a cruise for overhaul by Bethlehem Steel of San Francisco and arrived on February 27 [7]. The guard fish which finished overhaul arrived at Pearl Harbor on June 1 [7].

I it for eighth, the ninth patrol from June, 1944 to October

June 14 [78], the guard fish composed wolf pack "Mickey Finns" (Mickey fins) of the eighth patrol with thresher (USS Thresher, SS-200), (USS Piranha, SS-389), appointment Gon (USS Apogon, SS-308) and went to the Luzon straits. William Vincent オレガン colonel boards a guard fish; and of "Mickey fins" commanded it. 制 せられて was not able to strike the plane point by a depth bomb attack though I discovered the first aim on July 5 [79]. I heard a sound of the falling of a thunderbolt thought to be the thing from ピラーニャ after having repeated surfacing and a submarine voyage though I looked for a transportation fleet based on the report of the thresher on July 12 [80]. ピラーニャ attacked MoMA 01 fleet then and attacked and sank the orchid-maru (South Seas marine transportation, 6,503 tons) on army carrier day, but the guard fish was not able to get, overflowing it either. On the night of July 15, I receive the information about new transportation fleet, the Tama C21 fleet from ピラーニャ and hurry with a thresher on the expected course [81]. On morning of July 16, the following day, I discover Tama 21C fleet at last at 19°15'N 120°15'E / 19.250 degrees N 120.250 degrees E / 19.250, Luzon northwest edge ボヘヤドール cape (English version) north-northwest 100 kilos point of 120.250 [82]. It was night in ピラーニャ having attacked and sunk the army carrier will あとる-maru (Osaka merchant ship, 5,773 tons) in the morning in the beginning, and a thresher attacked and sank carrier Xining circle (Dalian steamship, 4,918 tons). While the day proves right, the guard fish watched a situation on the watch for a plane, but a book of the night goes down and gives it an order to start the back, action stations and moves to attack preparations [82]. When a date was going to be July 17, the guard fish fired six torpedoes for tanker and carrier five ships in total, and it was judged that all hit it [83]. The torpedo hit army carrier Niyama circle (Miyaji steamship 5,215 tons) and 海軍徴傭船満泰丸 (Yamashita steamship, 5,864 tons) and ammunition caused an explosion and did it and sank all in early time [84]. A date changed and fired three torpedoes for "a large carrier" at about 0:34 on July 17 and two hit Yamamaru (Miyaji steamship, 2,838 tons) on army carrier day and attacked and sank it [85]. I fired two torpedoes four of them in total for the sign which I failed to shoot with the first attack around 3:00 and was judged when I damaged 7,500 tons grade carrier [86]. I waited for a depth bomb attack to pass earnestly and surfaced in an evening [87]. I discover a rapid transit fleet at 20°32'N 119°15'E / 20.533 degrees N 119.250 degrees E / 20.533, a point of 119.250 in an evening on July 18 and am judged when I fire three torpedoes, and two of them hit 9,800 tons grade carrier [88].
